This team needs to trade for a backup SF

With the emergence of Luther Head as a solid starter, the Rockets really need to look into acquiring a back-up SF.

It seems T-Mac's health will be an ongoing issue throughout this season. Therefore, we cannot expect him to put in his usual 35-40 minutes a game.

With respect to our backcourt, Luther should be interchangable at the 1 and 2. I would prefer to have him as our starting 2 guard, with Alston at the 1. I think Anderson will eventually prove to be a valuable asset off the bench once we get T-Mac and Alston back. His overall game seems to be slowly coming around.

That leaves Wesley, Barry, and Moochie. Out of this trio, Barry is the must keep; once T-Mac is back, him and Luther will be called upon to hit the open perimeter shots that will suddenly re-appear due to the doubling of McGrady.

Expendable are Wesely and Moochie. Both are expiring K's in the 4 million range. This alone should be able to garner some interest with the right package or offering. I'm sure our plan was to wait before the trading deadline to make any significant moves or trades, but with the health of T-Mac and the team's play of late, I feel the time to make the move is now.

BTW, in my humble opinion, Head's play of late is no fluke. While he does make rookie mistakes, they are not glaring mistakes. His confidence and maturity are exceptional for a rookie and he plays under control.

i tihnk DA is a fine backup SF, so is bowen.

our problem is with perimeter defense. we need a guard who can stop penetration.

Well it's chronic back spasms, and they seem to be pretty severe. If he can't even sit in a chair for extended minutes without his back stiffining up, I wouldn't expect it to suddenly hold up under the rigors of the NBA for the rest of the season. At least not now. He's had issues with his back before, so given his history, I would prefer to err the side of caution.

I am more worried about his injury throught the rest of his career. What if he misses 20 to 30 games every season ? How good can you be if you are not on the court ?

Bowen is the guy in college you cheer for in the 4th quarter when the team is up by 20 points and he makes a basket with less than 2 minutes to go. I'm not hating on the guy, but that's what he is. I admire his hustle and determination, but the guy should be the 3rd option at that position.

In my opinion, Anderson is more of a 2 than 3. At 6-5, and with limited athleticism, he cannot keep up with the faster and taller 3s. That's one of the reasons why our perimeter D is lacking right now. When Tracy applies himself, he is easily our best defender. Our D is missing a major component to it.

I wouldn't advocate a trade if I thought T-Mac was going to be 100% healthy. But I just don't think we can expect him to put up the type of minutes he put up last year. I feel our current crop of guards (excluding Bowen) are more suited for the 2 position, and that's why I feel we really need a legit backup 3. In addition, the type of D that JVG will require out of T-Mac when he is on the court will definitely not help the cause.

    Really Really Good.

    The best Cheerleader

Seriuosly though, T-Mac has managed his back issues really well throughout his career. I don't understand why everybody is so concerned. Ya'll sound like Van Grumpy. I have back spasms and they go away with rest. You don't have to have surgery to recover from a back injury. The rest will do him a lot of good.
He'll be back and he'll be fine

Bowen is a great practice target but useless during a game. How many games have we seen ~22 minutes 0 boards, 0assists, 0 points for bowen? It is pitiful. I like the guy and think he should be on the bench with a towel revin up the crowd. We need somebody that can contribute more than hustle in 22minutes/game.

...and DA is more of a 2.

Well the Mavs waved Doug Christie and his wife Yesterday.

    Should we pick them up?

    Well we do not necessarily have to pull out a trade. We can easily wave a player (lets say Dion Glover) and sign one of the following free agents;

Some of these players may not be any good anymore, healthy or active but what da heck. Of course there is always the NBA D-League to take a stab at and fish out a quality forward.

Dion Glover himself would have really helped but I think injury is still keeping him down.

This could work if Gundy is able to get the wife to terrorize more than just Doug. If she can do the same thing to the non-performing players this could work!

"YAO! GET YOUR A$$ OUT THERE AND KNOCK SOMEBODY ON THEIR TAIL! YOU'D BETTER NOT COME BACK TO THIS BENCH WITH FEWER THAN 5 REBOUNDS IN THE NEXT 12 MINUTES! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR MAN? AND STOP LOOKING AT THOSE CHEERLEADERS! YOU TOO SURA! YOU NEED TO FOCUS ON RECUPERATION, NOT CHEERLEADERS!" :D

Oscar Torres and Walt Williams - it's like deja vu all over again! Glen Rice might need some free money, what's his phone number?

This team needs a couple of quick fleet footed Primeter defenders.

Our biggest problem is offense. If guys can hit open J's and be a little creative w/ the ball, we'd be okay.

As it stands, we are already a top 5 defensive team in the league.

I would be willing to give Rodney White a chance. He can score from the 3 spot but I doubt if the Rockets will pick him because of his past problems.
