This team is being held back by its coaching staff

Never thought I'd say that, but it's true.

This team is clearly being held back by its coaching staff. Bobby Slowik has been awful this year. Demeco is terrible at in game decisions/management.

Until this staff grows and gets better, this team won't be able to be taken seriously. I'm hopeful that Demeco will grow. I'm not as hopeful about Slowik.

I am concerned that this growth won't happen during Strouds rookie deal, which really will limit the potential of this team.

I specifically want to point out how terrible of a call on third down, on.the last drive, the pass to the out route is. If you run the ball, Green Bay calls it's last timeout. Without that timeout, the can't kick a field goal.

With a challenge on the backwards pass, Green Bay isn't even in position to win with a field goal.

There's been many other coaching blunders this year already.

Also, a good defensive coordinator has the blueprint to shut our offense down. Crowd the line and disguise pressure. Until we can figure that out (we haven't in two games), I think every team will do that to us. Shame on Slowik for not being prepared. Shame on Demeco for not holding him accountable.

We're one of the worst 2nd half adjustment teams in the league. I knew we would come out with a quick third and out on the first drive in the 3rd quarter. And then Green Bay marched down the field easily for a TD.

This is a 100% typical knee-jerk thread. Demeco is great for a 2nd year coach.

Every great coach learns and grows during their first few years. To flip out over Demeco is the highlight of insanity.

I do think they should probably move on from Slowick after the season. Over last year and this year, he does not seem to be OC material. AFAIK, over the next 10 games, he's coaching for his job.

Demeco is fine as a head coach . I actually like him as a head coach, but his in game decisions are holding the team back. Not being able to have the team prepared (pre snap penalties) are holding this team back. Not challenging that backwards pass lost the game. It would have taken 7 points off the board.

He's had multiple blinders this year as the game manager. I said in my initial post that I have hope for him to grow. I don't have as much hope for Slowik.

Is Demeco braindead? Even if it was a completion, it was 10 yards out route on and a 3rd and 15. You're still kicking the FG. Dumb dumb dumb.

What did tank have to do with scoring? If he caught that it would still be 4th and 5

I saw Green Bay drive it down for a TD on our defense without much resistance and then Demeco was just clap clapping happily on the sideline..very confusing.

    This.

Also, I don't know who is in charge of what in this regard, but the OL technique and scheme has been atrocious, fixing that would change the offense

Cost them 4 points by letting a TD bounce off him

I understand the players really like playing for DeMeco Ryan; but losing nixes a lot of goodwill real fast.

The honeymoon period only last so long. Then the no holds bar blame criticism can turn real nasty.

Without winning, guys aren’t in line for huge contracts.

DeMeco is learning how to be a head coach, he makes adjustments. But he has a lot of learning to do!

Has a team ever won consistently like this with a first/second year QB, a first/second year HC, and a first/second year OC in NFL history? Anybody? (I seriously don’t know…. Maybe the Eagles and Hurts?).

Even GOAT Brady needed old man Charlie Weiss to help with every aspect of the schemes and reading stuff at the line. Montana had the GOAT offensive coach in Walsh. Manning had the really old dude in Tom Moore. Elway had Reeves.

Of course they probably never expected Stroud to be this good, this fast, when some of these decisions were made…. And we’re selling short the possibility that Stroud is in part this good because of the coaches… but its just a really improbable/unprecedented (unless somebody corrects me) collection of talent but inexperience that has them at a cross-roads of sorts.

Or they’re all genius’ in their own right, will get better with every decision mistake, and the OTJ training/struggles are being overblown by a team that is fully still on track to go at least to the 2nd round of the playoffs (where they were last year) and beyond.

5-2 teams can be frauds. Records never tell the full story.

A lot of eyeballs were on this game vs GB nationally and the Texans coaching staff is getting a lot of criticism on social media.

Alright I’m done lol yall will come up with anything to satisfy yourself.

We’ll beat the Colts by two touchdowns next week and it’ll be…

“We should’ve done this last week…”

“We should’ve did this to them Week 1….”

“….but Demeco allowed 200 yards of total defense.”

Fun fact: Weiss is 4 years younger than Belichick, 19 years older than Brady

His bariatric surgery complications aged him 20 years though!

He also wasn’t a rookie or 2nd year player-caller during Brady’s early years… was doing it with the Jets and Parcells/BB before they went to the Pats.

For good reason. They all looked like 2nd year decision makers/play-callers.

Ryans has been calling defense for a little longer…. And the defense still seems to be able to hold its own (especially with all the injuries). The defense also makes adjustments drive to drive.

Since Minnesota was a whitewash that probably got written off as a total failure (which leads to improvement, but not really in any specific focus)… these sorts of games, where just one adjustment here/there or a different counter to a scheme overall (along with clock management) gets better, it can go a long way.

You just reminded me of Mark Mangino, Oklahoma OC and Kansas HC, was an offensive genius who ate himself out of coaching

Well the thing is how many games does Slowiks offense look impotent. Not even struggle, but literally impotent.

    Can think of many

    2023
    Jets
    Panthers
    Ravens x2
    Falcons

    2024
    Vikings
    Packers

Moreover, we are stuck at this low 20s scoring output. This shows that even games that we won, we are barely good enough not really showing out.

There's normal struggling and then there is looking like we have no answers. Slowik needs to go.
