We are not a defensive team, not an offensive team. We don't run well and aren't particularly proficient in the half-court set. We're not gritty and mean or hustling and full of heart. We're not young and learning, or old and wearing down. Bottom line, we're not fun to watch. Even wins against teams like San Antonio are pretty damn ugly. Denniscd, I know your pay is based on how much fervor you can generate. Sell me on this team. Why are they worth keeping intact?
Because this is the best we have had since the combination of the Dream, Barkley, and Quitten! Unless you want to bring back Cat, Franchise, and Cato and sell that as a possible cornerstone for a championship!
What are you talking about? Our great coach Adelman is a masterstroke of a defensive genius who is in the top 10 all-time coaches in NBA history. His rotations are always logical, he always puts players in the best position to succeed and his end-game offensive strategy will take your breath away. All we have to do is go on a 15-2 run, grab a top 4 seed and you won't be asking silly questions like this. On a serious note, I agree with you. After 41 games, I just don't see what there is to get excited about for this season other than watching Landry, AB and Scola develop. The goal is to get lucky, sneak into the playoffs and hope for the best.
why is every game for rocket so difficult??? they give up a basket in a sec, and they can never score easily like other teams do (cuz they cna't shoot).
This thread is dead on. You win some nights and lose other nights but a team of veterans like this one should at least know what kind of team they are. For all of the b****ing and crying about how boring or one dimensional the team was for the last few years you knew the team was going to show up and grind the other team to death. Now I don't know what to expect from one night to the next except minimal effort and confusion on the court. Oh, and a coach who gives us the "shucks fellas I don't know what is wrong" BS over and over. I hope Les Alexander is crying himself to sleep at night for ruining a team that could at least make the playoffs with a coach and players who actually seemed to care.
ITS THE SAME TEAM WITH THE SAME PLAYERS FROM LAST YEA I can't do it. What more do you expect from this them? You already know they're limited
Really? James Francis Brooks Scola Landry Bonzi That is 5 of 15...not counting Bonzi but it is 33% turnover. DD
James - beat out by friggin Luther one dimensional Head Francis - old and hurt Brooks - doesn't get enough burn Scola - needs time to adjust but I love him Landry - Love him too Bonzi - No jumper, and where is he right now?
Not true. Our roster is slightly better and we have a "defensive genius" new coach. However you slice it, we finished 51-31 last season. I expected better than that this season.
They are deeper this year than last year... and yet they seem much more vulnerable on both ends of the court. Last year's team got by with a bench of Howard and Head. This years team has much more weapons, but is underacheiving. Sure, some of this is on the players... but a lot of it is on management and the coach who thought they would be able to work together, and play just as hard under Adelman. The original post is pretty much spot-on... this team isn't an offensive juggernaut, and has dropped off significantly on the defensive intensity/success. And in the end, their success is STILL based solely on how well Yao and T-mac play any given night... assuming that both of them are healthy/effective.
Why? Because out of the last three games against sorry ass opponents, they lose one, barely win one at home, and then come from behind against the same sorry opponent (relying on 3 pointers). If anything, the last three games showed that this team's defensive intensity is inconsistent and plays down to the level of the other team... that is unacceptable.
we win and yet still have no identity. let me add one on to my original post. We aren't Tracy's team and aren't Yao's team.
we have found our identity. the sonics were just hot tonight. we shut them down when we had to. but the last 2 games, yao has been the consistent force, tmac is the finisher. i think we know how to finish games now. make shots and let tmac do his thing.
