Okay so we went on a family vacation recently in going to Disney World. We get there on December 18. By late December 20, I could sense that I had the developing sore throat. The next couple of days found me sneezing and feeling bad but I was pretty sure I didn't have Omicron (I have been vaccinated and did get the delta variant break thru infection around October). I never ran a fever and the rest of my family for the most part didn't get sick. So we get home the day after Christmas and now my wife is showing the same symptoms that I had down in Florida. However, her symptoms are worse and she starts to worry that she has Omicron (she also has been vaccinated and also got sick in October with the delta variant). She gets tested for COVID and it comes back negative. Meanwhile, I am still having some symptoms, not as bad, but lingering stuff like some sneezing and a sore throat. The wife starts feeling better but now she has gone back to having the same symptoms that she had over a week ago. 17 freaking days and I am still having some symptoms of what seems to be a "super" cold??!! What the f*ck is going on here? Has anybody else gotten sick and it wasn't COVID but at the same time seemed to last forever?? I really hate some of the aspects of the world we live in now - it blows donkey balls so much.
Yes, currently. First started feeling sick on Christmas Day. Nothing major during the day, but extreme chills and night sweats that night. Next day physically felt fine but sore throat. Progressed to laryngitis and full blown sinus infection. I’m just now starting to feel on the mend but I’ve been blasting through cough medicine, steroids, and I started a dose of antiobiotics just in case after flu and COVID came back negative. Something nasty is going around. In your case (or your wife’s) it actually sounds more likely that you got sick twice, maybe one of them was COVID, maybe it wasn’t.
I just had a friend go visit family for Christmas. They came back and took an antigen test after they got the word one of the people at the get-together started exhibiting signs of COVID and the results came back negative for her and kids. She lost her sense of smell and taste and started coughing as well as having a fever. She took another test a few days later she was positive on that one. Somwhere during this, she took a PCR test about a week ago and is still waiting on results. In the meantime, the fever seems to have subsided, as well as the cough, but her sense of smell and taste are still pretty much missing.
Yep, had the same thing a few months back. Lingered forever, four negative covid tests. The only thing that helped was a steroid shot. Sucked hard.
There may be something to this. My negative test was a PCR, but with the omicron attacking more in the throat, I’ve heard that nasal swabs are not as accurate as the throat swabs. I don’t know if there is specific data to back that up or anything, but it would make sense. What I had felt absolutely nothing like COVID, but with all these variants I guess I can’t rule it out.
My girlfriend and I had the same thing. I went to Europe for 10 days recently and tested negative three times over the course of two weeks. Symptoms lasted like three weeks altogether.
Reminds me of when my family and I all came down with COVID the week of Thanksgiving in 2020. I had a positive test, my 18 year old had a positive test but my wife had 2 negative results and she was the one that the worst case among the three of us, staying in bed for 2 weeks.
