Lets look at this from a different perspective. The Rockets are in the drivers seat in this deal (unlike with Hakeem). They can let Anderson walk (YEAH), they could trade him for Rice (WHO KNOWS), they can try to unload Rice to a third team (HELL YEAH!!!).

Look at the Stoudmaire deal a few years back, Toronto leaked the story and were able to bring in multiple offers from around the NBA.

NY is desparate to move Rice, the Rockets are not desparate to do anything with Anderson. By leaking the story the Rockets are now able to test the waters to see if there is any interest in Rice. Preferably for a center ( I HOPE).

I trust Rudy & CD, they have put together some nice King Kong trades in the past, and it would not surprise me to see a totally revamped Rockets team next year (outside of Francis, Mobley, Taylor & Griffin).

Houston could actually just be interested in Rice. Look at it this way -- suppose the White-Williams deal has been agreed to, but is waiting for Sept 15th to roll around. Then, this is essentially Walt Williams for Rice (basically, a better Walt Williams) and Anderson for White (we need a big man).

Now think about our team the last two years. When Walt Williams is shooting well, this team dominates. Glen Rice theoretically gives us an always-hot Walt Williams. It's very possible that Houston is simply interested in having Rice here.

Good point Barb.....I just cant seem to make ends meet on this whole thing.

We have all analyzed this thing from everywhich way, so I am going to throw in my 2 cents worth.

The main thing that bothers me is:

1. Rice does not fit our "youth movement"

2. Rice's salary does not jive with what we want to do with the cap $$$ this year....sign our own free agents (or at least that is what was said at the beginning of the off season).

Therefore I can only conclude that either:

1. The NY Post is a load of crap (definitely possible with their National Enquirer flair)

or

2. The Rockets have a major deal up there sleeve

I pray that its #2

Lets see hum........ my theory is the Sports Pages are pretty f****** boring covering the status of an Undrafted, Overrated Warrior Center, who can't draw an offer......

Good reason to leak a story

Well there are two ways to view CD & Co.

They are idiots - or they are smart

For the idiotic view -
They gave Hakeem away, they did not even fight for at least a center in return (KEON CLARK), did not fight for the Sonics #1 pick (owed to Toronto), paid Taylor slightly to much, They passed up Lorren Woods in the 2nd round for another SF (Morris), They think that having Rice, Griffin, Langhi, Morris, & Walt will give us depth at the small forward spot, etc...........

The smart veiw -
They knew that Clark would want big bucks next year, The sonics pick was not guaranteed for next year, they gave Taylor a wink-wink deal for him to come to Houston (in the first place) last year, They are planning on moving Walt for White, and hopefully trading Cato to Chicago.

As far as Rice, if he does have trade value the Rockets now know. By leaking the story, they know (before they trade for him) exactly what his value is worth on the market.

If he cannot bring in a center, then they look at him being are starting SF, with Griffin backing him up (and Taylor). Langhi can back up Cuttino, White can back up (or start) for Cato, and Morris will be lucky to get off the pine (unless they trade some of our freakin SF's).

Your comments are riddled with problems. Rockets had no bargening power w/ Toronto. They should be happy to get anything at all. Rockets traded for Morris later. They didn't have a 2nd round pick to get Lorren Woods.

Cato is untradeable at this point. As bad as Chicago is, they wouldn't want Cato.

Your suggestion is not indicative of how this organization does business. I would go out on a limb and say, it is easier for CD to speak directly to other NBA GMs rather then leaking information via the press. Maybe CD does have something up his sleave but he is not using the press to get him there.

I live in NYC. People here find the NY Post to be a very useful publication. Among it's many uses are:

-coverpaper for the flooring when u are painting the walls...
-cleaning up after your dog on the sidewalk)(there are stiff fines for not doing so)...
-rolling it up and utilizing it as a stiff brandish against would be muggers...
-serves as a barrier from the taxi-driver's breath when u hold it up in front of your face and act like you're actually reading it...
-and of course holding it over your head when an acid-rainstorm comes down and u are stranded w/o umbrella...

It could have come out because it is already a done deal as Clutch has indicated.

Is this the ONLY possible way to see them? Is that the only way to view anything or anyone? It/he/she is either perfect constantly or perpetually wrong?

The world is far less black and white than it is gray. I would suspect that, like the rest of us, CD & Co. fall into the area in between the two extremes, because they were either smart when we won the championships or idiots for doing something we don't like or they suffered brain damage between the Griffin trade and now. Amazing.

I heard that Camby was in the mix along with Cato to make the deal work. The Knicks badly want to move Rice and get Shandon due to his affiliation with Layden.

I think the Rockets counter with Marcus Camby included. This would not be smart on their part. However, dummer things have been done by NBA teams wanted to get rid of a player.
