We've had plenty of discussion about how our ideal offseason would work out, but I was wondering what some of your worst fears are about this offseason. So, post the things you REALLY DON'T want to happen...try and put them in order if you can.

    1. We aren't able to sign a starter caliber PF and Juwan doesn't fully recover from his heart infection, leaving us up shiit creek without a paddle.

    2. In desperation to add another scorer we foolishly sign Latrell Sprewell to a long term contract.

    3. We DO get a power forward but have to do a sign & trade which has us giving up too much of our backcourt (ie. Sura and James).

    4. Dikembe doesn't get re-signed and ends up on another West playoff contender. That would hurt.

That's just a quick list, but I think it covers most of my fears. I'll add more if I think of them.

    What are yours?

    (I'll take that one)

    2. In desperation to add another scorer we foolishly sign *ANYONE OLD* to a long term contract (i.e. more than a couple of years for a guy the age of Spree).

Aside from that, I don't have too many fears. I'm confident in the front office, and I'm also okay with us going into the season with the team as-is if Juwan is healthy. Sure, I'd love to improve...but not at the expense of a long-term, bloated deal for someone who doesn't need it, and not at the expense of *really* overspending for a guy like Stro.

If Juwan is healthy, if Yao improves even more, and if we have a full season with the same guys...I can handle the wait-and-see approach and look for mid-season improvements if necessary. Head, Spanoulis (maybe still), and possibly Badiane could all still surprise.

No 1 is the biggest problem. Juwan needs to be healthy and have a good backup
    if we can't get a better 4.

    2. In desperation to add another scorer we foolishly sign Latrell Sprewell to a long term contract.

this can't possibly happen. We might sign Spree. But it wouldn't be for a lot of bucks and it won't be for longterm. His value just isn't there.

    4. Dikembe doesn't get re-signed and ends up on another West playoff contender. That would hurt.

I really doubt this will happen too. I think Deke wants to come back. And Yao wants him back. The only way we don't sign Deke is if we do a blockbuster deal that brings in a backup C and a lot of salary.

The biggest fear of the offseason is that we strike out with all of our PF targets. That would pretty much suck. But not all would be lost. If we can aggressively shop our expiring contracts during the season, we could fill that void. Rasheed was brought to Detroit with essentially expiring contracts.

    1) Having to read all the ridiculous trade proposals all summer long.
    2) Running into a real live "little person."

i'll pass on walker AND spreewell. toine will want too much $ and take all of tmac and yao's shots and only make 40% of them. spree is too old and if he can't stay motivated making $14 million a season then why the hell would he be good in our locker room making the MLE???

I can't believe he thought he could get an extension on that 14M.

    Worst offseason possible?

    1) Sign Spree using the MLE. All of it.

    2) Sign and trade for stro, 10mil/year and taking on brian cardinal's useless contract.

Really, it can't get any worse than that. We've got an old guy that can't shoot threes and a role player getting paid a ridiculous contract. And we've lost all our expiring contracts to get him. No cap space for years, and we're stuck with this team.

Les goes on an ether binge and fires CD in order to hire Isiah and Layden as co-gms for the Rockets.

TMac decides to get a motorcycle.

Yao's offseason "knee surgery" is more serious than he lets on.

Other than those I have no real fears. Everything else can be improved over the next 8 years. Time is on our side.

I wouldn't be happy if we didn't sign anyone. But my worst fear for this offseason would definitely be that we hand out a ridiculous long-term contract (say, 10+ mil. or 4+ years for Walker, Swift or some mediocre has-been like Finley to a 4+ year deal)

The good news is that that has yet to happen under JVG. Charlie Ward's the only thing that's come close, and he doesn't make enough to really signify.

    Badgers are scary.

Oh my god, what if Yao and Tracy both get attacked by a badger in the offseason?!

That would suck. Maybe we can get the badger to play PF though. I think we could give him carrots.

Oh...wait. Rabbits eat carrots. Badgers don't. But badgers might eat rabbits, so maybe we can give the carrots to some rabbits then let the badger eat the rabbits, and then the badger can play PF.

    That would be awesome.

    Excellent.

My only fear is the same one it is every offseason...we sign who wasn't worth it for way too long and for way too much.

    I've had some horrifying offseasons.
