I thought it was losing the Chuck Wagon to injury. OMG, what am I saying... as you folks in the U.S.A. say: knock on wood. Sorry.
Yeah, I saw the thread title and my immediate reaction was to assume that whatever the content of the story was, it was nowhere NEAR being the “worst thing ever.” But now that I’ve read the story, I concur with the thread title. I guess the only thing that could possibly make that situation any worse is if he was forced to watch the AMA’s last night. In a room full of titans fans.
I don't know how easy it is to converse with the guy since he doesn't have much capability, but I bet he has some really interesting theories and concepts on existence and the like. I mean, being trapped in your own head for 23 years would pretty much force you to be introspective.
23 years is almost unfathomable amount of time to be stuck in that hell. I think experiencing that for 23 HOURS would be unbearable....I can't even imagine 23 YEARS.
I'm kind of amazed this guy is still sane. After 23 years of no human interaction, I don't see how a human being would still be able to funtion at a most basic intellectual level.
There was a Tales From the Crypt episode with a similar premise. It really sounds like a horror story!
Same. As discussed before, I (and several other people) have the occasional problem of waking up but my body is still asleep and I can't move. It's torture for those few moments, but this is unimaginable.
I have had that same experience the one time I took a sleeping pill. Needless to say I haven't taken one since. Insomnia is my friend, cause at least then I don't feel like the guy in the Metallica One video.
I might be mistaken, but wasn't there a House episode with Mos Def in it that was the same circumstance?
Holy crap...that is freaking hell right there. What the hell do you do for 23 years? That is freaking sad and depressing. Wow.
Not surprising to see the comments jumped straight to the Terry Schiavo case. [rquoter]Makes one wonder about Terry Schiavo...who was killed by her husband's authorization of removal of her feeding tube.... - Susan, Colorado/Texas, US, 23/11/2009 [/rquoter] A case like this will certainly open debate about things like this but from what I recall fo the Schiavo case imaging of her brain showed most of her brain had atrophied. I'm curious if what they saw a few years ago when they imaged this guy was the same thing.
I think I remember that episode but wasn't it that they thought the guy was dead not just in a coma? Didn't they find out the guy was actually still alive when someone saw his eyes tearing up?
I'm not sure they ever realized. I remember them doing an autopsy on him which would have actually killed him. But you still may be right. IIRC, it was all shot from the perspective of the paralyzed man. This also reminds me of the death of Nikki and Paulo on LOST.
