Let me preempt this by saying right now I think Yao is undoubtably the number one but often I feel like we have something to prove to Yao and the Chinese and various other factions rather than the other way around. Just look at the title of this ESPN article " Yao's people take a closer look at Houston." http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/story?id=1386321 I mean who knows it may all be worth it in the end, if Yao realizes his potential but I doubt that any team has ever gone through this type of scrutiny before or will again for that matter. Well that's enough rambling out of me just wanted to see if any others were feeling this way. Go Rockets!
I wonder what Hakeem Olajuwon is thinking about with all of this Ming stuff. With his ego, he is probably ready to kill somebody. Talking of a possibility of another great Center to play on this team. I think Hakeem wanted us to remember the Rockets as Olajuwon's team. Oh well things come and go, and I will miss the dream when he is out of basketball.
There is no way that Yao Ming will be a better player than Hakeem was. There has not been a greater all around player than him and may never be. To even compare Yao with Hakeem has to be in a Dream-like state (no pun intended).
Since there is a universe if exactly one player who's done that, I assume you think that Oscar Robertson is the best all-around player of all-time. Otherwise, I'm not sure what your point is.
On one of the TNT halftime shows, Kenny Smith said the he never heard Olajuan refer the the Rockets "my team". Smith also said that when Hakeem won the MVP, he invited all of his teammates out onto the floor with him. And he did not actually pick up the trophey himself, instead leaving that honor to one of his teammates. What a classy guy.
Hakeem has nothing to do with Ming being picked by the Rockets or not,but there is no doubt that this is the most complicated 1st pick of them all if the Rockets decide to pick Ming, because of the hoops that they will have to go through to get him and even then there remains a risk that he may not play in a full season because of the terms that China may impose.
