I would take him with our pick. The 2 things that bother me are 1. he needs to improve at the college level and 2. his shooting range. I think he can improve everywhere else under JVG. However there would probably be a poll as to how many threads about "JVG needs to play Crittenton more" DD would start.
4 TOs in 31 minutes per game in college? And you think this guy is gonna get run with us? Sorry, I like his potential. But we are in win now mode. I can't see us drafting a 19 year old when we won't even play a 25 year old in his first year.
well at some point we are going to have to start worrying about the future. anyone we draft at #26 won't necessarily be expected to come in and contribute right away. this guy is young and by all accounts a project. considering the #26 pick probably won't earn you much in return for it, we are best off using it. the draft is intended to take care of the future, which is why we should take the BPA regardless of position or age...free agency can facilitate our desire to win now.
the best we can hope for is an undersized hustle PF or a scorer off the bench. young teams that are trying to rebuild will draft unpolished PG's with high upsides. we are not one of those teams. we need to win NOW. crittenton does not help our cause.
From NBADRAFT.net Excellent vision and passing skills ... His size allows him to see over defenders and make passes that the average 6-2 PG could not ... Shows great heart, very competitive. Sounds like this is what we need.
I'm a gatech alumn here in atlanta, and from watching him play, I'd bet solid money he won't be around when we're picking. He's going to do extremely well at predraft camps and he's got super potential. The problem is I think he still needs another year in school. He gets hot headed sometimes, or rather not under control, and if van gundy had him, he'd never play him. for all the potential and skill he makes alot of mistakes. That said, if he gets the right teacher to teach him how and when to lead, then he'll be pretty awesome. he's got the skills, and the vision though, and I would love to have him.... if he has that teacher.
sure, he has tools. what 1st round prospect doesnt. but his flaws at the college level will be exploited even more at the nba level. he isnt a true floor general, he turns the ball over ALOT, his outside shot can be spotty at times. he's far from a finished product, and he might well be the best PG prospect in this year's draft, but we're not looking for prospects, we're looking for players who can contribute RIGHT NOW. a freshman PG who is turnover prone and who doesnt have a great understanding or experience of the game is not what we NEED. crittenton would be a luxory pick that probably will pan out in 3 years, but we cant wait 3 years with TMac and Yao in their primes right now. give me a solid veteran PG anyday over crittenton right now so we can focus on getting a 6th man type scorer off the bench through the draft.
if it were up to me, and ill use nbadraft.net's mock, id trade back for portland's 3 second round picks at 37 and 42 and 53 . i'd take G/F brandon rush and PG ramon sessions respectively. sessions is a solid PG with good ball handling skills and doesnt turn the ball over. he's a true PG with good size at 6'3 and is a good defender. he'd be the perfect backup PG. everyone should know rush would fit exactly what we need. at 53 id take glen davis. i know, i know. but he might have some good upside.
I wouldn't say that at all... His problem is consistency. When he's focused and under control he's awesome. The problem is that he can be too emotional and strays from the plan, he loses composure. But when he's under control, he's a very good leader with true PG skills. He's not raw, and he's very smart. He just needs some refinement between the ears.
We WERE in win now mode. Now Van Gundy is likely gone and we still don't know if CD is handing the reigns over to Morey or not. But it's very possible we'll start the season with a new coach and a new GM. If that's the case, who knows what mode we'll be in! Sure, they'll probably just try to add a couple more pieces and call it a run at the title again, but we just don't know that yet.
i'd rather take a guy like morris almond. hes got a ton of college experience and is a very smart and well rounded player. I dont think he will be around by then though
