Now this is intersting television. I just flipped this on, so I don't know all about it, but a guy was walking around the office interviewing Berman and Linda Cohen (she has an accent she appearently hides when she's on SC) and the producer. There's a clock counting down the time to when SC goes live. Stuart Scott, of course, is the "host" of it. They are about to air a segment about Chris Berman and his stupid nicknames right now.
When people running TV stations start to think THEY are what people tune in to see.....its time to switch them off.
I thought it was funny when the girl doing the broadcast was like, "hey, you really gonna leave out Santana. "Then moments later, the producers were like "Hey, You're right, we gotta get Santana in there." Then they started moving stuff all over the place with like 5 seconds to go in order squeeze in the minnesota highlights.
This is what I liked about watching this. It's like reading one of those "How Stuff Works" books. It's just a peek behind the curtain. I don't know what crawled up your butt Christopher, but this was about how the show is run and not about the anchors. I guess you think those "making of" features on DVDs are all about ego as well. Anyways, my brother told me it's the 2nd time they've done this.
They did this stuff last year or earlier this year. Then it was cool. Now it is repulsive. Too much of everything is bad. The good this here is that for some out there like you that have not seen it before, it is bearable. I could not stand it for the second time. Conveniently Chris Berman comes out of "retirement" to be in the spotlight. I hate that guy. Then Stuart "the w****" Scot always has to be there as well. Repulsive
Chris Berman is all that is wrong with sports journalism. He's spawned the "I'm bigger than the sports I'm covering" attitude that's sweeped across the industry. Like when he came back from vacation this year on the same Sunday as the final round of the Masters and he was wearing a green jacket and made reference to it every 27 seconds. Not to mention watching him during the NFL Draft. One time, he was screaming at an assistant for a pen, slamming papers around and what not, when there was a pen she had just placed there a minute beforehand. Also, everytime the camera wasn't on him, he was motioning with his hands for them to speed up such irrelevant things as interviews with recent draftees and general managers.
I can't even listen to him anymore. I passed up the HR derby this year just because he was calling it. I finally had enough last year during the HR derby here in Houston when during every other HR, he was saying "Hello Galveston!!!" or "Hello Huntsville!!!" or "Hello Austin!!!" ugh...makes me so mad ...
I haven't watched Sportscenter in forever, but I'm always interested in "Behind the Scenes" stuff. Hey Oski -- Awesome sig!
Dont get precious. Ive seen the show and thought its was boring. Throw in that, with the fact that ESPN has gone to the dogs.....and I just dont watch it any more. Now next time, when you read a forum, realise you are likley to be reading some opinions to dont agree with. Just because you dont agree with someone doesnt mean you have to have a whing, and a cry and get all emotional. Mkay....
I have gotten sick of it as well, but perhaps its because I have watched it so much. I think they overanalyze everything too much.
That bugs the hell out of me too. I skipped it this year. What is the point of doing the "back back back back back" routine during a homerun derby? We know it's going back. It's a HOMERUN DERBY!! Really, the only shows that I can still watch on ESPN are NFL Primetime (I know, I hate the nicknames too but the highlight packages are still the best in the biz) and College Gameday on Saturday mornings. That show is very well done IMO.
In 1992 I had to score an Astros / Cubs game for him in the announcer booth at the dome when I did overhire for ESPN. He's that loud and pompous in person. The best part about that day is I got to watch Harry Carry call a game and I got to work the overhead Pitcher cam a couple of times.
