These crimes are abominable. If they are convicted they need to be executed. This story just saddens me.

    http://www.wichita-massacre.com/

Their crimes now appear even more heinous than when they were first reported. The latest charges filed in the attack on five young friends at their home in December 2000 accuse Reginald Carr, 23, and Jonathan Carr, 20, of raping the two women and sodomizing one of them.

The Carr Brothers are also accused of forcing the two female victims to perform sex acts on each other, and of forcing the three male victims to perform sex acts with each of the women.

Prosecutors say the Carr Brothers broke into the triplex apartment rented by the three men and abducted them and their two female friends. All the victims were in their 20's.

According to the survivor's horrifying pre-trial testimony, after sexually tormenting them, the gunmen took the friends individually to an ATM machine and forced then to withdraw as much cash as possible. Then, the gunmen transported their naked victims to a remote soccer field and forced them to kneel in the snow before shooting them execution-style in the head, and then running them over with a truck. After leaving their victims for dead, the Carr Brothers allegedly returned to the men's apartment and stole appliances, bedding, and china.

The four friends who died were: Jason Befort, 26, an Augusta High School science teacher and coach; Brad Heyka, 27, a director of finance with Koch Financial Services; Heather Muller, 25, a St. Thomas Aquinas preschool teacher; and Aaron Sander, 29, a former Koch employee who had decided to become a priest.

The fifth friend, a 25-year-old woman, survived. To get help, she walked nearly a mile, naked and bleeding from her wounds, through snow and subfreezing temperatures. Her identity is being protected because she was the victim of a sex crime.

The surviving victim and Jason Befort were planning to get married soon. But Jason never had the opportunity of placing the engagement ring he had just purchased on her finger. It was discovered and stolen by the intruders.

A Preliminary Hearing was held in April 2001 at which the survivor testified using her initials, H.G. However, since a gag order had previously been issued to the witnesses, Judge Rebecca Pilshaw warned them, and everyone else in the courtroom, that "the less that is said about these things, the better it will be for all parties involved."

Judge Pilshaw continued, threateningly: "I don't have the ability to order a lot of other people to do or not to do certain things, but I am going to make a very, very strong suggestion that people not talk about this." However, many news reporters and Wichita residents are opposed to these efforts to suppress the facts of this case. Outside of Kansas, there has been a virtual media blackout.

The Carr Brothers are African-Americans. All of their victims, including two persons involved in other incidents, were White. However, according to District Attorney Nola Foulston, " the fact that the defendants and victims happen to be of different races has no bearing."

Although e-mails, letters to the editor and other comments in public forums have questioned whether the degradation, torture, and murders were racially motivated, Foulston strongly maintains that race was not an issue. During the preliminary hearing Foulston appears to have studiously avoided questions to the survivor which may have yielded evidence to the contrary.

Jury selection for the Carr Brothers trial began on September 9th 2002 at the Sedgwick County Courthouse and was completed on Wednesday, October 2nd. The trial began on Monday, October 7th and is estimated to last at least a month.

Court TV originally said they would broadcast the entire trial. Then they "changed their mind" and said they would only broadcast the opening statements of the prosecuting and defense attorneys and the testimony of the survivor--but yesterday they "changed their mind" again and only provided a few brief news reports about the trial.

Why can't we just overlook the 8th amendment and sodomize, shoot and runover these pukes for their punishment, if they are found guilty...

I hope, if guilty (and I think the fact that one of their victims survived and can point them out is a strong indication that they are) they will be sent to prison for life without the possibility of parole.

What a horrible crime. I am glad that someone survived so that these monsters can be brought to justice. It is going to be very hard on the survivor after such a terrible thing. I can imagine what this kind of trauma would do to a person long or short term.

I wonder if this will be under the "Race" Crimes or "Hate" crimes bills?

This is one of the worst things I have ever heard.

This is a horrible crime, however this quote has me puzzled.

I bet if the victims were black and the attackers were white it would be called a "hate crime." Jesse Jackson would be all over it.

I think this goes to show that all crimes like this are hate crimes, regardless of color.

These guys should be hung by their toes, beaten with bats, then left to die...if they were black, white, red, yellow, purple or some other color.

Refman: No offense and you are certainly willing to post what you like, but I REALLY wish stuff like this didn't get posted here. It made me physically ill to read.

Maybe we should have a disclaimer or something.

Yeah, I thought he might be joking when he said worst thing...then I read it.

That is seriously one of the worst things I've ever heard. Nearly makes me rethink my position on the death penalty.

Comes really close to making me feel like Kramar on the betting episode when he justifies betting because he's doing it with Jerry's money-I might not have a problem with them coming to an unfortunate end in the yard.

This was a crime that is unfathomable to me.

REALLY, REALLY, REALLY sad and pathetic individuals that did these acts.

To me, the death penalty is too good for the bastards.

I think they should be tortured or burned to the point of death but kept alive.

Stories like this just makes you wonder why such people exist!

This is worse than the James Byrd incident in Jasper. This goes to show that hate crime legislation is ridiculous.

All crimes, regardless of race of the victim, are wrong.

Sorry Jeff. But I posted this to inform people of the horrible wrong that was committed upon 5 people who, not unlike any of us, congregated at a friend's house...and were brutalized.

I entitled it the worst thing I've ever heard because I thought that people would see who posted it, and knowing that I can be pretty calloused would KNOW that what was inside wasn't for the faint of heart.

I'll be sure to make a disclaimer next time.

    :(

Death penalty is too easy on guys like these. They like watching sex acts so much, well then I would make their punishment what John Doe did in Seven. The "lust" one with the prostitute!

What sort of a sick mind do people have to conjure up things of this magnitude. Absolutely horrifying. I've always thought how anyone can live with themselves after commiting such acts ... how can you not crawl out of your skin having seen ur victims suffer like that?

If they like sex acts so much, their appendages need to be severed, stuffed in their mouths, baseball bats shoved up their asses, with splinters, and then their remaining body parts should be slowly severed from their bodies ... nails, fingers, hands etc.
