Morey did everything we could expect him to do. He assembled a roster that has the talent to contend. One thing, perhaps, and I cannot judge that, is how close he and his people are to the "pulse" of the team - the human side of things. Understanding who clicks with whom, what the interpersonal issues are, etc. But that's really on the coach. So I still trust in Morey. All I would expect him to do now is to go to the owner and ask him for permission to hire a disciplinarian coach - and actually an entirely different coaching staff - for this team. Then make some of the obvious trades, and perhaps we can turn the season around.
It is his fault in that he was integral in building the current coaching staff and culture. We need to find a long term coach that gets the job done. Thibs is undeniably interesting.
He is reponsible for something. He is the General Manager. And he is receiving a good paycheck. (a decent one)
He signed McHale, got the players, dictated the philosophy. How is he absolved of any responsibility? The supposed rift among our players, what is he doing about it? Buck stops with him.
What about Moreyball? His system? The one we hired McHale, and let Rick the Ruler go for? I think our offensive system in by far the biggest reason we are failing. Our offensive system was built by Morey, he hired McHale to implement it for him, and to attrack free agents and be a players coach. So in reality, its kind of more Morey's fault then the puppet coaching staff he hired to implement his system. But I still love Morey, he still tried really hard with this roster, a mighty swing but its looking more and more like a miss. He's great with contracts, he really goes hard for free agents, he's drafted well enough, and of course is a top notch with trades. The offensive system was a **** up though. He's needs to actually hire a real coach to do make a system. Like the the one Rick had, the one the Spurs, Warriors and all good teams have.
From JVG to Adelman to McHale to Bickerstaff (8 years) Alexander is disgruntled but from his high horse he can only come up with one action Fire the Coach. You never change the GM. At some point he would be running out of good options.
He runs a tigh ship but doesn't run a tight ship. He gAve players too long of a leash and now they out here biting people. He shouldve put a stop to when Harden said role players are just role players. But Morey is just as immature, hes out there taking jabs at Steve Kerr and here's our 24 year old franchise player taking jabs at Stephen Curry. He's just follow our ****ty culture. They also have lcd monitors inside the locker rooms. All Harden sees is stats so therefore he gambles for more steals instead of playing defense. This stat driven team needs to stop and it starts with Morey
The Rockets have ZERO 2-way players on this roster. ZERO Everybody is either offense or defense-only. Beverley at <20 mpg might be the closest, if he maintains his 3PT... or maybe DMo, but he sucks at rebounding It's amazing we don't feature any 2-way players
go to the owner LMAO !!! He extended mchale for 3 hrs and les still has to pay him !!! les was trying to get by at least one yr on a cheap contract with J.B less not trying to pay 2 head coaches for 3 yrs straight #nevermoreyfault #clutchfans
Barely few strong 3 pts shooters when a team is suppose to shoot 3's all day long. A star with big time ego who have to be kept on short leash, yet the coaches who let him do literally whateva (who hired the coach? ) His own attitude in media doesn't help either. Morey is a hack, just because he can acquire assets doesn't mean he knows everything, try to tell him that.
Why not hire a GM who is a disciplinarian and he'll hold the coach responsible? Maybe even hire himself to be the coach. That way everyone is on the same page. Owner wants more disciplined play, so the the GM, and the coaches are given the tools to do such. You know, so everyone is on the same page as to how to get your team to produce a good product on the court.
Pretty sure the 3 pointer and pace strategy has been adopted by many teams... Or perhaps you need to define moreyball because I see it in many different teams.
You don't understand the 3 point strategy and the mathematical significance of it. You don't need a bunch of good 3 point shooters, you just need folks not averaging career lows as 3 pointers and playing below their careers averages.
Good 3PT shooters shooting their career low > average/subpar 3PT shooters shooting their career low Most of our guys are barely average to begin with.
Agree with this. Morey may be one of the best at trades and contracts, but he should stop interfering with the actual on-court things, eg. system we run, coaching. I'd be 100% behind Morey if he stuck to the contract&deal side of the franchise, but right now he has too much power and it hurts team success. Implement a coach&staff that is not a mere puppet of Morey and let them run the basketball-side of things, Morey can provide them with the right roster but that should be it.
His point is that Morey failed at finding the right players for the 3pt-heavy system, you can't deny that. Great shooters on a downyear would still be better than what we have.
