I'm sure many of you have seen this story linked on drudgereport.com. God, this just burns me up.

Anti-Bush Bracelets Say, 'Count Me Blue'

After spending 10 days in London with friends who were outspoken about their disdain for President Bush (news - web sites)'s policies, Berns Rothchild came home wishing she had a way to show the world she didn't vote for him.

"I sort of felt ashamed, and didn't really want to be associated with being an American," said Rothchild, who lives in New York City and voted for John Kerry (news - web sites).

Her mother had a suggestion: bracelets, inspired by the Lance Armstrong Foundation's popular "LIVESTRONG" bands, that would signal opposition to Bush.

Thousands of miles away, two women in Idaho had the same idea. So did a woman in Kansas. The result? At least three separate bracelet ventures targeting left-leaning citizens who want to wear their political affiliation on their wrists — and at least one competitor bearing the opposite message.

Rothchild, 35, is selling blue bracelets that say "COUNT ME BLUE," while Laura Adams, of Fairway, Kan., offers blue bracelets that say "HOPE." The McKnight family, of Moscow, Idaho, is even more direct; their black bracelets proclaim: "I DID NOT VOTE 4 BUSH."

"It's kind of like saying, 'This is my tribe,'" said Adams, 43, a Kerry supporter, who was inspired by her 14-year-old stepson's yellow Lance Armstrong band.

    ...

Rothchild said her venture has spawned a counter-protest — from her Republican father.

John Rothchild, a Miami Beach, Fla., resident who voted for Bush, has invested in 5,000 "COUNT ME RED" bracelets.

You know what, you stupid twats? No one cares who your dumb ass voted for, whether it was Bush or Kerry. You are not special. You are not unique. You are not a beautiful snowflake. You took a nice, if overly trendy, idea initially conceived to help cancer patients and dragged it into the muck of politics in the most self-centered way possible. You're advertising to the world, "I am such a shallow, vapid person that I define myself by external allegiances to a political party". You jackasses with your 'W' window stickers, your DARWIN fish symbols, the whole lot of it-- the only thing most of us take from the sorry spectacle of your trinkets is that your self-image can be summed up by a 75-cent knicknack you bought at 7-11.

When I am elected President, my first order of business will be to legalize hunting obnoxious asses like this. If you see someone with an external adornment of this type, plug away. Limit 2 per week.

    only 2 per week?

It'll take years to get rid of 'em at that rate.

although the process will probably be sped up by the fact that many of the hunters will be shooting each other.

    Wait a minute, I don't under....

Oh, now I get it. The bracelet is supposed to say "I did not vote for Bush" but instead of using the word "for" they substituted the number four, which sounds exactly like the word "for".

How did they ever come up with that?

I agree that it is sad that so many Americans now feel ashamed of their country after the elective war that has killed tens of thousands of innocents, the torture, the lies and all the rest that has made us so hated in the world.

That is just stupid. I did not vote for Bush and I am damn proud of that. I think that Bush is one of the worst things to happen to this country in a long time. I am a staunch Republican that voted for the Democrat. That being said, by no means am I ashamed to be an American nor would I say something like that to appease some anti-American Brits.

Whether I like Bush or not is immaterial to the fact that he is MY president. The people of this country voted to keep Bush in office in a legitimate election. I'm tired of seeing these disgruntled Democrats that keep on working to divide the country and to show their disdain for Bush. I do not like Bush, but I have gotten over the election and he has my support as my president. If these people care about their country, they should do the same. United we stand, divided we fall.

Exactly for the most part any way. I am ashamed of our President. I am not ashamed of being an American. This one leader doesn't undo the ideas behind America, no matter how hard he tries.

I love my country, but I still don't support this President in most things. But I don't need to wear my affiliation or beliefs on my sleeve(or wrist as the case may be.). If someone brings up the topic I have no problem letting them know my thoughts on our nation and our President. I don't need to wear my patriotism on my sleeve either. I don't have bumper stickers or any of that on my car saying anything about America. I don't mind others that do, but I don't feel the need to show that off.

I could care less about these stupid wrist bands (get one from Lance Armstrong's organization, and fight cancer... much more worthy), but I completely disagree about Democrats "working to divide the country." I don't support Bush. I support the United States of America. I didn't support Nixon after I voted against that a-hole either. Why on earth should I? The same reasons I voted against both those chumps existed after their reelection.

You're supposed to role over on your back, like a dog, and "submit" to awful, dishonest, incompetent rule... just because the other candidate won?? BS. The day after the election is the day you begin working on defeating the opponent, his venal, corrupt and incompetent administration, and those elected radicals in his party who support him... whether it's Tricky Dick or George "Dubya, and I swear I'm a Texan... really, I am!!" Bush.

    Rant over, for the moment.
We're a damn democracy, the last time I checked.

And no, there isn't anything wrong with that.

These types of things are nothing new. They are just in bracelet form now. What I find more humerous are the people who still have Dole/Kemp or Gore/Lieberman bumperstickers plastered on their cars. Are you still so passionate about that ticket or are you just too lazy to peel them off? Either way, you are dumb.

It is important and good to be ashamed of one's country when it is acting shamefully. It is how things get better.

This is just as vapid as putting "Support Our Troops" magnets on your gas-guzzling SUV.

Wearing a bracelet or slapping a sticker on your car isn't going to change anything. They're nice gestures, but without *real* action, they're ultimately meaningless.

They are free to leave if they are that upset, or they could realize that the majority voted for four more years and try to run a better candidate out there next time.

I voted for Kerry, but will support our President, and am DAMNED proud to be an American.
