    I'm going by this theory.

Finley is past his prime but he can still shoot.
He's been to the WCF, the playoffs how many times and hasnt gotten a ring.
He's tired of not reaching that next goal and is wanting it badly.
He wants to get back at Dallas for cutting him so he will sign with a contending team especially in the same devision.

I know this sounds far fetched but do you think we can sign Finley to a vet's minimum or something along those lines.

I know alot of you guys are giong to say he's going to be offered alot of money but heck he's going to be making 51 million from being cut.
Steve Nash from Phoenix has allready publicily mentioned that he would be a great asset to there team why not us.

I think he wants to Win and he wants to win now. With the signing of Stro and possibly Finley wouldnt that at least entice him?

Sorry I meant to say in that last sentence signing of Stro and possibly Damon.

Plus, Finley is fairly tall (compared to our guards). I'd sign him in a second if he wanted to come.

If we could still sign both Damon AND Finley, this would be the best offseason ever (disregarding drafts (Hakeem, Yao) and the T-Mac trade).

All we have left is vet min $. Finley will easily get that somewhere else. PHX and Nash have already expressed interest and he's from Chicago who probably will have part of their MLE intact. Not that I want him on the Rox or think they need him but it's basicaly a dreamcast.

I didn't know finley had expressed interest in Chicago. What many people may not know about Finley is that when he was in High School, Jordan was in his prime and visited Finley's school. MF4 got to play MJ one on one in the school gym in front of the camera's for a little fun. I don't remember if MF4 won a contest or was chosen by his coach or what but I remember MJ telling him he would see him in the NBA some day. Anyway I always had the impression that Chicago was Finley's favorite team as a kid so him wanting to go to Chicago makes scense to me.

Anyway I am not to high on Finley as a Rocket. His shooting has become streaky in his old age. He has dissapeared in the play-offs the last two years and he is starting to look injury prone. Not major injuries but the little nagging ones that allow you to play but seriously affect your game. We always seem to hear that Finley is trying to play his way through this injury or his game is not quite right because he is recovering from this injury. MF4 is a proffessional but I don't want him.

If we don't a solid starting SG when he's available, I'd strongly consider it. But it's really his choice, not ours. The only thing going for us is the fact we're in Texas (that and we're a contender and we can offer him a starting job). Timing is an issue, however.

It depends on Phoenix and wether they resign JJ. I still doubt it.

i don't tihnk he will take the LLE to come here if JJ is out of phoenix. with jj and bell they have no need for him.

CHI, DEN, HOU, MIN, SAC, UTA, WAS...would all be in the hunt. some of those teams would offer more than us and he would probably go there.

I personally think that the Rockets would be most likely to sign Allan Houston out of those players who may be cut due to the new cap rule. He's an ex-Knick, he knows JVG's system and he can shoot lights out. Being that they're both old and neither are the athletes they once were, I think I'd actually prefer Houston. His shooting would be an asset.

I don't think it matters who offers him more because Dallas has to pay the difference off of his existing contract. I think at this point for him it should be about where he has the best chance to get a ring, and out of your list I would definately say that is us.

I'm not sure but I think the topic of double dipping came up on ESPN right after the new CBA was agreed apon and I think they said that if a player is cut the team that cut has to pay his entire contract and what ever they get from another team is extra. So...

The way I understand it is that this is an oppertunity for finley to make a hell of a lot of money. If Cube cuts him then take the big pay-check from Cube and then take the highest offer from someone else.

I could be wrong but this is how I think they explained it on ESPN a while back.

Definitely Allan Houston over Finley but the Rox have to concerned about the guys knees. His knees have affected his shooting, last year when he played the few games he did play, he didn't have any lift on his shots and was getting his shots blocked often.

I agree; right or wrong, I can't think of Allan Houston without thinking of Glen Rice. If Houston's shot isn't falling, he's useless. At least Finley can still be somewhat effective without scoring.

Finley would be a logical addition, but I think he'll get more attractive offers elsewhere. Guys like Finley and Houston can still shoot very well, but they obviously can't run and gun like they use to and I doubt they would be able to defend other SGs like Wesley did.

That's the main thing. We need a SG that is quick and can defend the faster SGs of the league, that's why we got rid of JJ and that's why I don't see the Rockets making a serious run at Finley or Houston.

I was going to create this exact thread last night, but your reasons are why I didn't.

No way Finley gives us a discount, unless he has a serious soft spot in his heart to win a ring and get back at Dallas.

Basically it comes down to if Finley wants to win, and what he views our chance of winning. If we add Damon Stoudamire or another decent vetran for the LLE it will and put some pressure on him, especially if we bring him over and give him the first class treatment. And no matter what he is getting a raise.

I do think he would be a great fit. He could give us around 25 minutes a night. and Head and Barry can split the rest. Do i think we get him? no. But i wasn't so sure about getting swift for the MLE outright so i'm not gonna discount anything i hear.

    HE WAS OUT OF BOUNDS!!!

no seriously, there is no way that we can pick up Finley due to salary cap issues

He would be a good pickup if its for low money.

I wouldn't mind them picking up Doug Christie if he is released by the Magic. He is a very good defender and excellent passer (He might actually be able to competently feed the post unlike everyone on our team not name T-Mac). His annoying wife might not be worth it though.
