Why do so many posters around here think almost every single NBA star or superstar can be had for the measly sum of Cuttino Mobley and Eddie Griffin in a trade? (Some of you are kind enough to throw in Glen Rice, Moochie Norris, or Kelvin Cato as well). Do you people really think that other GMs are salivating over trading away cornerstones of their franchises for these guys? Apparently guys like Garnett, Payton, Abdur-Rahim, Terry, Brand, Miller, Maggette, Carter are available for a song, huh? I know this board consists mostly of homers, but how about a healthy dose of reality? Wow, it feels good to get that off my chest.
Yes, thank you for pointing that out. Many of these trades proposed are just friggin' fantasies with barely any chance of happening.. plus everybody proposes to trade quantity for quality usually....
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Unless its Moochie or Griffin, who are pretty much both trash.
It's pretty much the same thing up here in Dallas where the local Maverick yahoos think that they can just give away zeros like Shawn Bradley and Rafe LaFrenz to teams like Portland for Rasheed Wallace or Phoenix for Amare Stoudemire. All fans everywhere think like this. Fans of the Rockets need to face reality. Carrol Dawson has screwed the pooch by assembling a mismatched cast of one dimensional players. He must be replaced if this ship is to be righted. Rudy further screwed the pooch by poorly coaching them. It's time for Rudy to ride off into the sunset. This is a mess that have been 4+ years in the making and it won't, can't be fixed overnight with one majic "trade".
I agree Drapg. There is no way we could get Garnett for Mobley and Eddie. That's why I said Moley for Tinsley and Bender.
Well not all of them for stars. Damon Stoudemire, Jeff McInnis, Antonio Daniels, and Derek Anderson are not stars. They are role players. Tim Thomas is not a star or superstar. Best thing is to keep the team how it is...
Garnett, Payton, Abdur-Rahim, Terry, Brand, Miller, Maggette, Carter Okay. It is pretty ridiculous. Garnett is never going anywhere. But Payton is not stable. They might not even want to resign him. They could resign someone else. They could sign Elton Brand instead of him. He is not definitely going to stay there. Abdur-Rahim can be acquired too. Remember before the trade deadline..they offered him for Eddie and Rice. Well...they offered to trade the cornerstone of their franchise. And the Rockets could easily get Terry. But why the heck would the want Terry? Brand is also not ungettable. We probably won't get him...but the Clippers might not want him. You never know...Andre Miller. The Clippers might not even want him. But of course...the Rockets won't get him. Maggette is fairly easy to get if someone seriously wants him. Carter is still a franchise player. But he was being shopped earlier. Give up Cuttino and Eddie and we probably could have gotten him. And Mobley is not a "zero". He is actually one of the top players. And he is a small contract. So he can be moved. Eddie also has a lot of potential and many teams want him too. BUT IN THE END...the Rockets will probably have the same exact roster next season. There's nothing wrong with stating your opinions.
I wouldn't mind the same roster, as long as Mobley becomes less selfish and realizes "there is no I in TEAM". I think this team might just need a little gelling. That or just more teamwork.
I agree with keeping the team how it is (although one or two minor, and I say MINOR tweaks could be appreciated), but you're making me confused as to your position, Keep Juaquin... I thought you didn't like Mobley... and I thought you really really wanted him traded?
I TOTALLY disagree. You dont know the clippers situation. There are enough to teams to sign outright brand/odom/olowocandi/miller and they get NOTHING> I have asked clipper fans what would happen if the entire team left for nothing, they will NEVER go to games. I mean zero fans. All the players on the clippers ,hate playing for the clippers. They can be gotten. Sterling likes young guys with small contracts, mobes, griffin, picks. Brand wants to play with steve/ming and so does odom. If the rockets "stand pat" again this season,Im moving to san antonio to watch parker/ginobilli/jackson/brand/duncan. I think I just might start a poll. What do fans want , stand pat? or big trade? Granted, garnett is impossible because of contract so is alot of other high priced dudes. The last time I checked, the clippers arent high contracts yet.
Unbelievable. One "minor" tweak is just being gay. Standing pat is as no sack as they come. Thats not even working. Heck, even we can be gm's of the rockets. All we have to do is sit on our butts all summer "standing pat" and wonder why we miss the playoffs. What happened from yesturday to today. Everyone yesturday was willing to trade EVERYONE except ming, now because we beat the crappy griz(who are tanking btw) everyone wants only a "minor" tweak. This team sucks a$$. MAJOR change is needed. From the guys who made the over priced contracts rudy,cd, to selfish dumb players mobley ,griffin(cant dribble). The day we drafted griffin ,while everyone was happy,I happen to mosey on over to nbadraft site and see that griffin cant dribble worth a damn.I knew then he would suck. Why is it the scouts missed that? And yet,two years later,CD,RT are still turning down Rashard lewis and SAR for grif? Makes no freakin sense. Its beyond comprehension. I am actually totally puzzled. Its almost as if the org is trying to lose on purpose by standing pat.
The Garnett, Carter, and most Brand&Miller trades are pretty stupid. But Abdur Rahim CAN be had for Griffin and Rice, which was the deal the Houston Rockets turned down at the deadline. How about Eddie Jones? Mobley and MoT for him? NO WAY you say? "Possible deals Miami would persue could be the same ones that were talked about before the trading deadline. Miami had conversations with Houston about Cuttino Mobley and Maurice Taylor and with Minnesota about injured guard Terrell Brandon. The main talks, though, came with the Chicago Bulls involving Jamal Crawford and Marcus Fizer. " Steve Smith for Abdur Rahim was something San Antonio turned down. Believe it or not, we have PRIME trade bait. Cuttino Mobley has a brilliant contract for his overall production, Kelvin Cato has a great contract when compared to NBA starting C's and their production, for 4M Eddie Griffin is a bargain since he can turn out to be anything from Robert Horry to Rasheed Wallace. Glen Rice takes 10M off your cap in one year. About the only thing close to untraeable we have is MoT maybe and Moochie Norris for sure. Everything else on our team has great trade value. We could instantly rebuild a team with an offer like Boki, Griffin, and Rice. That's15M in contracts to instantly re-build any team. To very young prospects, a veteran leader who will give you 10M in cap space after 1 year. There are a few guys proposing crazy trades, but I think you underestimate our players more than they overestimate our players.
I was going to post a nice long messege in this thread but after reading Sane's post...no need. My thoughts exactly! Trades don't always get done on pure "talent" alone. There are MANY other factors involved such as salary, length of contracts and teams that want to move some pieces (that while talented) just don't fit for pieces that WILL fit. This is why some of the trades mentioned are possible. But yeah, trades for Carter, Garnett are stupid and aren't going to happen. But Abdur Rahim, Brand, Derek Anderson etc? Possible!
drapg: how dare you criticize this BBS's superior knowledge of player trades? That's it. I'm trading you. I say we trade drapg, Nova, and a first round draft pick for A-Train and Vin Diesel. -- droxford
