I can already hear the cries to ban me from ClutchBBS... but just hear me out. Sometimes it is good to think outside of the box.

    HOUSTON TRADES
    Yao
    Pike
    Wilks
Spoon (and any other rox scrub to make it work salary wise or the trade exception)

    GOLDEN STATE TRADES
Dampier (sign and trade if he opts out)
    Van Excel
    Dunleavy
    Cardinal

WHY WOULD GOLDEN STATE DO THIS
They love Yao and he would help them sell out everygame. GS would still have other young talent to build around.

WHY ON EARTH WOULD HOUSTON DO THIS
Stevie, Cat and Van Exel are best buddies. Instant chemistry and a great, pushing the ball three guard rotation. Lots of fun to watch. Would allow Stevie and Cat to play the game that they are best suited for... run and gun. Dampier has turned into a solid, blue collar center who can play defense and rebound with the best of the west. Dunleavy and Cardinal are young, tough, fundamental players who can shoot the ball.

    HOUSTON ROTATION
    PG Stevie/Van Excel
    SG CAT/Van Excel
    SF JJ/Dunleavy/Boki
    PF Cardinal/MoTaylor
    C Dampier/Cato

This is a team that could run with the Dallas's and Kings' of the association. You still have muscle inside with Dampier.

Yes... we lose the great wall of china... but this is a team that could win some serious games in the west and I have to believe that Golden State would do this trade in a heartbeat. Not sure if the financials work or not...

That said, other than "you dumbass" and "what a stupid idea", what do you think?

If I remember right, GS had their best results when they played Dunleavy at the PG position.

So now we have arguably 5 good guards (Steve, Cat, Dunleavy, NVE, JJ), while we rely on MoT and Dampier for big men.

I like Dampier, but no thanks. All the value you traded for will be riding pine.

I'm usually outside the box, but I think, for safety sake, I'll crawl back in on this one. Good luck.

The point is to have 5 good guards/small forwards that can run, gun, and defend. We would have two legit bigs who can defend and rebound in Cato and Damp and a low post scorer in MoT.

Tell why you think this would be a bad trade?

To trade away Yao who has shown enough potentials and glimpse of greatness to become the most dominant big man in the NBA one day is bad.

Sure SF and Cat might be "best suited" to run and gun, but they are horrible at it. They are best suited for the iso game and adding an aging NVE only adds to that. This new iso team you assembled would be painfull to watch. No Thanks.

Maybe... but Van Excel can be a top guard playing 15 - 18 minutes a night. He is a great sparkplug and scorer. I don't think that SF and Cat are horrible at run and gun WHEN IT IS UNDER CONTROL. that is the key. for them to be under control. this trade is also about getting cardinal, dunleavy and dampier... all solid players.

This is far and away the worst idea for a trade that I've seen on this site.

Ok... but why? Don't you have any reasons to back up your opinion?

The rockets are one of the worst 'fast break' teams in the NBA...

What was Golden State's record this year? 37 and 45? And we are pretty much swapping front lines with them. Not a good idea. You must be a Warrior fan to want this trade.

Like the trade suggestion the way it is and If they throw in their first round pick, it'll be an even better deal...got my vote!

    terrible trade

any trade involving Yao is terrible unless its for someone like Tim Duncan

I wouldn't even trade Yao alone for Dampier, Van Excel, Dunleavy and Cardinal
