for the 1st time EVA! What's a good, dependable model under T-Mobile's service? I'm really leaning towards the MyTouch Fender Edition just because I love how it looks and feel and because I'm a big Clapton fan. The only drawback I can think of about that phone is that I heard the 500-ish processor might be slightly slow when running a lot of apps or playing games, etc.
You should buy an unlocked phone and then get whatever service you think is best for your area. T-mobile has a crap 3G network. Plus if you buy a phone through a network they will require you buy the broadband service where if you get an unlocked phone you can buy whatever service you want. I have T-Mobile and don't bother with 3G because their coverage is so terrible so I pay only 10 bucks extra per month to get the slower service that has coverage everywhere my phone works.
Wait for the Samsung Galaxy. The rest of the Android phones on TMO, save for the N1, are horrible. Agree with the poster above on TMO 3G issues.
Concur. Made he mistake of buying the Cliq XT with a 2 year upgrade. Still stuck on Android 1.5 while the rest of the world runs 2.1. I will never buy another Moto product. Samsung Galaxy S has already been rooted and it is not even on sale yet. I would get that if I could.
I think they have upgraded a lot of the older phones to the newest firmware version now, including the MyTouch (non-slide)
Not the Cliq or XT. It was "planned" for a 2.1 upgrade in Q2 but they blew the deadline and now say they are in testing. It might get released when the replace the Cliq with the Charm.
If you are going to get an older phone, I propose you jailbreak it (or buy it off craigslist, they mostly tend to be jailbroken) so you can install custom ROMS and updates. I'll be installing Froyo on my myTouch this weekend. Think about how fast phones have evolved just in the past 6 months. Do you really want to be stuck with a two year contract? Better yet, go ahead and upgrade, sell the BRAND NEW phone on craigslist and use the proceeds to buy a phone of your choice.
Nexus 1. You want to stay away from the manufacturer GUI skins (ie, Sense, MotoBlur). This slows down the already slow roll out of Android OS updates. Samsung Vibrant is the top spec'd phone on T-mobile. Not sure if I trust Samsung with timely Android updates in the future. Vibrant does have a little bit of a UI skin but its not clear how that affects the update process.
Yeah thanks for the input guys. I was thinking of doing that unlocked/Jailbreak thing but I'm a noob and I don't know much about those things even though a lot of my buddies do it.... Heck ya' know what? Screw it, I desparately need a new phone and from all I've read or heard the MyTouch Fender is a pretty good deal, since its pretty much like the typical MyTouch except with an extra 16G of memory and has already been updated with the latest firmware/software etc. I only need a good call quality, good TM capabilities and a good email synchronization , especially with gmail (dont' have to worry about that with HTC phones though lol) and Outlook for work.
I'm getting the new iphone when my tmobile contract expires. Yes, the HTC is better but I don't want that brick of a phone. Oh and welcome to the 21st century
Your timing is perfect with the Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) coming out Thursday July 15th. I may end up getting that, but my wife is pressuring me to keep an unused unlocked iPhone 3 that her brother gave her yesterday. With our contract not up until Feb, she wants me to save the money I would lose upgrading now. It's a battle of who wears the pants in the family.
