I know i might get hate for posting two threads in such a short time, but i really wanted to express my ideas with my fellow rockets fans. TROY MURPHY! im surprised really...that NO ONE has mentioned this guy as a possible addition to the rockets. He has said time and time again... he wants to go to a play off team, and sick of the BS happening with the Pacers. The guy would be an absolute positive for this rocket team. I think he would be a lot easier to attain than bosh and dosnt ruin any of our plans in the long run( looking outside just the trade pieces we would send for him, im talking about the money were gonna need to give bosh would ruin our salary for years to come) Troy murphy is a HARD working player, who is scrappy and plays with heart, perfect fit for the rockets, hes probably the 3rd best shooting big man behind dirk and bargnani, and could stretch the offense. He would also complement yao perfectly. he could definately play center, hes been playing center ever since he was traded from the warriors. and his stats dont lie. for the past 4 years hes been averaging 15 ppg 10 rebs. also, i do believe his contract expires next season, if we obtain him, thats gonna be an expiring 11 million dollar contract, and maybe resign him for cheap, and get another all star that year because the 2010-2011 free agency aint to shabby. I really hope morey looks into attaining him. btw im not saying i dislike bosh..or would rather have murphy on the team rather than him. im just saying that we would have to give MAIN pieces, like scola. and also the cap hes going to take up and picks. But i belive in murphys case, we would send potentially battier( less value than scola ) and jeffries, and way less money, hes gonna be an expiring and dosnt ruin any of our future plans what so ever. In morey we trust
yes that's what we need. A guy who can't rebound, play D! On the defensive we need a big who can help alter shots, not a big goof! I'd rather we go after a Amir Johnson (but better) type. He plays well against the rockets and only the rockets! So he probably wants to play for another team so he can pad his stats against us.
Troy Murphy is an excellent rebounder and gives us a stretch 4 to pair with Yao. Maybe you should actually think before you type.
the guy hustles, puts up a consistant 15-18 ppg and 9-13 rebs a game, rarely injured, Perfect insurance for Yao. Can also slide to the 4 spot and be affective. and a free agent at years end. how is he not worth it? It's not like we would give the same things for bosh for Murphy, It would be a lot easier to get him than bosh.
Great hustle guy. Yes lets get Mark Madson & Brian Scalerbrine (sp?)! We need guys who can protect the rim, someone who runs the floor well. Not a big goof! We already have players who can stretch the D, the last thing we need to do is shoot more 3s, need guys who can finish at the rim. The only reason he gets as many rebounds on that team as he does is cuz no one on the pacers rebounds very well. So he's forced into it, the rockets have good rebounders at the guard & forward positions.
Maybe you could try defending your points instead of trying to be the internet tough guy? Or am I expecting too much from someone with the username SternSuckS?
Wow, everything in this post is so blatantly wrong. Troy Murphy is taller and more athletic than Mark Madson or Brian Scalabench. The Pacers have a legit 7 footer in Roy Hibbert. The Rockets have no rebounder and yet Muryphy averages more rebounds than Scola. Danny ganger is a solid rebounder too. Troy Murphy has a nice touch around the rim too. Just because he can shoot 3s, doesn't mean that's all he can do. And yeah, hustle like Chuck Hayes is really bad for the team isn't it?
have you watched basketball before? Hibert does not rebound, he's awful. Chuck is a good defender, Murphy is not, FACT!. He even averages more rebounds then Hibbert does! Who cares is Murphy is taller, that doesn't make him better. Murphy can't stop a pylon on defense, his lateral foot speed is non existent. Ariza averages more rebounds then Granger (only slightly). On average rox guards/wings average more rebounds then the pacer guys do, FACT!
Oh and one last thing.. his +/- is the worst on the pacers! (http://www.82games.com/0910/0910IND1.HTM) The last thing we need is a big olf that can't play any D. If the last month was an indication on how the rockets' D is going to be next year we don't need a pylon on D.
At that price, we are much better off giving up nothing and making no move at all. There is no reason to get Troy Murphy. I don't believe he improves the rotation of Scola/Hill at PF in any way. He is a poor poor defender, shotblocker and his lateral quickness is non-existant. Penetrators would have even more of a field day against him than they would have against Scola. Master_GM claims he puts up 15-18ppg, but he has only hit the 15ppg mark ONCE in his career and he has been on teams with lot of scoring opportunities. Frankly, he's a good player. He nails the 3, is a strong rebounder, and shoots good percenteages. He doesn't turn it over too much. But, at this point in time, he's worth no more than a few million to the Rockets given that we have two supreme 3-pt shooters in the backcourt (Brooks and Martin), Chase and Battier off the bench as well. We need to shore up our shotblocking, weakside help defense overall, and our interior quickness. Troy Murphy is excellent, but he's also everythingwe don't need, especially for the amount of players we'd have to give up. I'd rather sit tight till the trade dealine than pull the trigger on this one. At this point, the only way I'd be happy with getting him is if we gave away Jeffries and Andersen (ONLY) and got back Murphy and a second rounder. Even considering the lopsided nature of that deal, I would prefer to give up one of the PF's (scola or hill), Ariza, Jeffries and picks for Bosh. Again, if we're not getting defense, I'll go with the clearly better offense.
Yeah, it's not like the Pacers have someone like Jeff Foster who rebounds at an ABSURD rate. Yeah, Foster was injured this year but he was healthy the year before this and yet Troy Murphy has a ridiculous defensive rebound rate. I don't get what you're saying. How come Scola doesn't get as many rebounds as Troy Murphy? Chuck Hayes isn't that tall. Why are you against him because he grabs rebounds? Yeah Murphy is bad on defense, but so is Scola. Neither have foot speed necessary but Murphy has better height. Coupled with Yao Ming, imagine how tough it would be to send a double team next year against the Rockets.
Stern, say Bosh is better because he is. But don't try to denigrate Murphy without knowledge of his game. I actually like the idea of a stretch 4, as I have not given up on Yao. Yao wants to be the man, Bosh wants to be the man, so I see a conflict there. I don't see the conflict with Murphy. I just don't see a playoff run without Yao and with Murphy in the event Yao gets hurt again. -P1st, shoot 2nd
Scola doesn't get as many rebounds cuz of 2 reasons primarily. 1. He's expected to run the floor, as in one of the 1st to get down the floor. 2. Cuz he has better rebounding guards around him that get a lot of the defensive rebounds. Murphy on the other hand gets more rebounds cuz he doesn't run the floor as well or as much as Scola, hence you'll see Murphy shoot 2/3 shots a game from the 3 as a trail player. Just cuz 1 player gets more rebounds then another doesn't automatically make them a better rebounder. It's always dependent on the situation they are in. In Scola's case he's not needed to rebound as much as Murphy does. From your post it sure seems like you're telling me we're better off with Murphy then Scola?
Your points are all good. I like the guy - a lot. But, there isn't a $12mm deal which could make sense...for these Rox.
Can you guys not read? We don't need a guy who is one dimensional. I'd take Murphy in a heart beat if he can play defense. Be an intimidating force on the defensive end at the rim, but he's not. Doesn't play D, the rox struggled on the defensive end near the end of the year last year. When Yao is out, we need presence at the rim, Murphy is not it. He's useless for the rockets. If we had someone who plays 40 minutes who blocks/alters shots at the rim, I'm all for Murphy, but we don't. He'd be a perfect fit for the Magic!!!
