I'll be doing this after every game to show what we need to fix for the next game. Rebounds We should try and get Boozer and their other hustle players like Millsap off the boards, thats what mainly put us into a hole in the 1st half, we improved during the 2nd half. Lane Defense Quite a few times, I saw a bunch of wide open layups for Utah, we need to clog the lane (no 3 second violation please), and make sure that the Jazz dont get any wide open layups, and we should try and contest whatever we can, Utah is a slashing team, so you need to watch the paint a lot more, rather than the perimeter. 3 point shooting 6-22? You can blame Bobby Jackson and T-Mac for that, who went 2-12 combined. Dont take so many 3 pointers, the Jazz are taking less 3s and making more. 3 pointer should only be taken if wide open. Slash more - Shoot less We dont have too many slashers, but we should try and do it as much as possible, slashing opens up the 3 point line and creates easier baskets, whenever Deron slashed he either had an easy layup or a wide open player. Bench play This is one of the most important factors, our bench went 5-18 and had 17 points, they should try and shoot more effiecently and try and outscore the Jazz bench. Rafer If he plays he should be an important factor, he will make our bench look deeper, take off ball handling duties off T-Mac, play better defense on Deron Williams, and possibly shoot better. If he has a good assist night we should do good Shane Battier Give the man more shots, holy crap, 7 shots and 22 points? Is that possible? Well if your Battier it is, the man is a very good scorer, he wont play much defense because the Jazz have no Kobe or LeBron so give him all the shots he can get. Tracy McGrady Should take it more to the basket, and take smarter shots, just stay aggressive and get to the free throw line Free-Throws Even though both teams shot horribly, we should try and shoot well, Scola did bad mainly but the team should improve. Alright thats all, lets have a good Game 2!
If your list is 75% accurate, there isn't much hope. Sounds more like a need for reconstruction than minor tweaking.
Let me state this again, ball movement and making clean shot is the key on our offense. Aggressive attack will not work aganist Uath. It is defense that should be more physical and more aggresive.
Just dont take too long making a decision during offense because that disri\upts the ball movement. Its either you slash, shoot or pass.
McGrady was taking it to the basket - he either passed once he got inside or missed the contested layup (backside D was always there). He just got shut down in the fourth.
Boxing out. Look for Milsap, Boozer or AK and put a body on them. Be physical. Make shots. Simple as that. Bobby and Aaron needs to break down the Jazz defense. Aaron did a good job at the end, but Bobby settled for jumpers. I think he stopped driving it in once he realized the refs were going to swallow their whistles.
Things to improve? MAKE SHOTS, we had some open looks, we will have them tonight. Just gotta knock them down, finish at the rim and make free throws. T-Mac - be agressive as much as you can
One thing I noticed is that on our picks, when the Jazz defender feels he can't make it around the pick, he'd try to push the Rocket setting the pick into the ball handler. It's illegal but they weren't calling it and so it was pretty effective at slowing down our ball handler. How to improve? I don't know, maybe try to sell the foul better. I'd also say set stronger picks but I don't think that's the problem. Or else, use their dirty tactics against them.
ask the league about this flow of the game crap. it is pissing me off. flow of the game is physical, therefor, fouls won't be called, even if they are, unless it is obivious. that is bull crap.
Shooting? And shooting. Probably shooting. And then, shooting. Could be shooting. Or, put ball in basket half the time instead of third of the time. My guess, shooting.
Rebound and FINISH STRONG AT THE RIM. Scola needs to take his time. In the 2nd half he realized Boozer and Milsap can't guard him. I hope the team realizes this and exploits that matchup more often. Boozer is more predictable on offense, so I believe Scola has a better chance of getting Boozer in foul trouble than vice versa. Scola should just hold his position and force the jumpshot. I'm counting on Landry to neutralize Milsap. Please box him out even if he's out of bounds.
Remind Bobby Jackson that he isn't, nor will he ever be Gilbert Arenas. Remind him that he's a facilitator and that if he's 2-8 then it is never OK for him to take contested 3 pointers with 15 seconds left on the shotclock.
