my buddie travis from NY sent me this... Things to expect from VanGundy: The man will never look good in a suit. The man will never look good on TV. The man will never look like he's gotten a full nights sleep. The team will play serious D and be fully prepared for every opponent. The possiblilty always exists that he will hop on Yao's leg at any moment and start humping it like a rabbit on viagra. Post-game interviews will consist of several grunts and a possible terse sigh. Even in Texas the Van-Man won't Tan. Playoff (you will get there) rotations will consist of a maximum of 7, he'd use two (Yao-Francis) if league rules allowed. He's often mistaken for the waterboy. Unlike NY where he had three shooting guards, no cap room, no center, no point gaurd and 12 small forwards he probably won't quit in the middle of the season to be replaced by former Rocket coach, Don Chaney. Well, good luck, and go ROCKETS!!! best, Travis
i was really hoping that some genius would pipe in with a really clever comment making me feel unwanted and not worthy of participating in the elite banter that goes on here. goal achieved. thanx!
Touche. I get tired of the elitist banter myself. Oh well. Do you really see Van Gundy using just a 7 man rotation here? I could understand that with the Knicks. But I sure hope he doesn't do that here. I don't want our main guys burnt out and worn down when we get to the playoffs.
I don't give an Earthly crap what a guy looks like. Did you ever see Rudy's hair at the end of a playoff game?!? This is all I care about. If the team is educated on how to play tenacious D and has been fully prepared on each opponent, then the coaching staff has done its job IMO. If they can't win with that, it IS time to start changing players. Classic! I don't care what he says to US afterwards, I care what he says to the Rox. Probably not here. The bench wasn't as deep in NY the years he was there. JVG has a plethora of talent from which to draw, which is why I am SO excited about the coming season.
When I saw Van Gundy at the summer league, he was quite tan. I was shocked. But aside from that I think your friend's observations seem to be pretty accurate.
I guess it would be better if no one ever started any threads that didn't actually have something to do with actual Rocket moves. We would have what.......4 threads this entire offseason? calm down
Thanks for the post, speedball. Those are good, fun points. Van Gundy will shake things up in Houston, and egos will likely be challenged. But for a team to mature and evolve together as a team, they have to learn to keep their egos in check. I think Van Gundy can do that. Hell, if the Rockets just improve their defense this year (a JVG specialty), they're a shoo-in for the playoffs. Man, I can't wait for the season to start!
it really dosent matter what he looks like in a suit, but what matters is what kind of team he'll assembel . if history is any guide, yao ming will get alot more touches and the rockets will adapt a more big man orientated game plan. thats one thing i can certianly say about van gundy
If the rotation is 7-man, I wonder who they'd be? Yao, Steve, Cuttino, Maurice, Pike, Eddie?, Adrian? I hope this isn't the case because I am liking Cato lately.
God, I can't imagine what would happen to MoT or EG if they ever get caught with their addictive friends again.
