So, I made the mistake of flying on a buddy pass. And I've been in LaGuardia for the last 2 days trying to catch a flight back home to Houston. And I'm still waiting.

Trying for 10:30 flight now. Is currently overbooked by 4 seats and I'm 8th on standby (non-rev)

Discuss. Or Poke fun at. Or Photoshop my misery. Whatever to make the time pass, do it. I could use a good laugh right about now.

Depends on how much money your lookin to spend....LaGaurdia is in Queens right across from Midtown Manhattan, you could take a cab into Manhattan for about $30 or take the MTA into the city too for maybe $5-10 and then just be a tourist til your departure.

I used to live here so tourist thing wouldn't work ...but good idea. I did give up yesterday, went back to Ozone Park, dropped my stuff off and hopped the A Train into the city and enjoyed a beautiful day.

I don't want to do that today. I want to leave.

You and I are certainly different. It would be well worth it to me to get a guaranteed flight from SWA for $236.

Laguardia is nowhere close to midtown Manhattan speaking in relative terms.

MTA would cost you $2 to take the M60 bus into Manhattan via the 125th Street Bridge, so you'd be in Harlem all day.

OP, I've been in your boat too many times. my aunt and best friend's mom both work for Continental. I've been stuck in Newark, DC, even Fayateville once on a connecting flight.

I almost missed Christmas and book AirTran to actually get home one year and vowed against traveling standby

LaGuardia is pretty close to Manhatten, about a $25 can ride. You should take a ride into the city

No one checked availabilities for you beforehand? On buddy passes, I make sure I can make it there and back before I go anywhere.

    I'm with other posters.

Southwest out of LaGuardia to Hobby might be your best guaranteed bet.

but if I'm assuming OP is flying Continental Standby, Newark is easily the better option as it serves as the other hub.

Maybe a Newark>Cleveland> Houston route taking advantage of Continental's hubs?

There are shuttle buses that are relatively quick that go from LGA to Grand Central for about $16.

Also just to add it could be worse. I was once stuck at Kennedy for 16 hours.

So 16 hours at Kennedy is worse than 2 days at LaGuardia?

People from Houston still fly to LaGuardia/Kennedy?

    Newark FTW.

Yes. Both are kind of old and rundown but its a lot easier to get to the city from LGA than JFK. On top of that if you have 2 days you have enough time to do some other stuff in the city.

I think tigereye will have success from Newark.

and it has much easier access to the city with the AirTrain option in case he gets stuck. a $12 train from Newark to Penn Station gets you into the city in 20 minutes and puts you in a much better part of town to explore on a time constraint.

good luck! tell us which eventual route got you home. I'm flying into Hobby tonight from Burbank and using Southwest to fly to Chicago Midway next week. I'm a sucker for the smaller old school airports with less options but less of the craziness factor.

You would really rather be stuck for 2 days away from your home than be stuck for 16 hours at JFK? At least at JFK, you are home in less than a day.

There are a lot more flights to Newark, but laguardia is half the distance newark is from manhatten. I went from laguardia to the waldorf in 15 minutes last week when it can take up to an hour from newark. I will never use newark again when I am just going to the city
