My folks are headed up to the Northwest for 10 days & will be spending 1 day in Seattle & 3 in Vancouver. I need suggestions for restaurants, cool things to do & see, and whatever else comes to mind. Thanks in advance.

Seattle - If they like Seafood, send them to Cutters.. Its fabulous.. They should go to the Pike Market also while they are in Seattle. There is a lot to do there, including watching the guys throw the fish, etc. The Space Needle/Seattle Center/EMP is always a good place to spend some time. There are a few boat tours that go out into the Sound as well. If they are staying in a hotel, I recommend asking the concierge as they will definitely know of activities your parents would enjoy.

I know of some activities in Vancouver, BC but I'm not sure if Blunt Bros. would be up their alley.. ;)

Well, even if they do have their hotels set in Vancouver, I'd strongly consider taking an early ferry to Victoria for the day. It would make one heck of a nice day trip, and it's just so beautiful there this time of year. In fact, I'd make that a top priority. Have them be prepared to be disappointed they didn't spend more time in Victoria.

Both cities are GREAT to visit, but Victoria is probably the better place to visit while Vancouver is probably a better place to live.

Another nice half or full day jaunt would be to take the sea to sky highway up to Whistler. Gorgeous drive, and Whistler is a really quaint place to visit in the summer, and a good place to grab a nice meal.

You seem to enjoy the culinary side of life, and I would imagine that you get some of that from your folks. Because of that, I'd definitely visit the Granville Island Market which is just across the Granville Island Bridge from Dowtown Vancouver. They'll be so pissed that we don't have anything like it here in Texas. It's just a big market with incredible meats, cheeses, produce, and prepared fruits. I was there last month, and the prices and quality for fresh berries (and other produce) is just ridiculous compared to what we have available.

Your dad needs to understand that mom is going to want to do some shopping in a town like Vancouver. He should try to keep her on Robson street for shopping. At least he can duck into a bar for a quick cold one, and the scenery there is UNREAL. He should wear sunglasses and concentrate on keeping his mouth closed. That would have probably kept me out of trouble.

Make sure your mom goes into Lush and gets some bath products.

Here's a link for your mom:

Hopefully, they like Asian food because they won't find anything as good down here. One place that we really loved was Shanghai Chinese Bistro (downtown).

Gastown has kind of gone downhill somewhat, so I wouldn't make a point of going there. To an extent, same thing with Chinatown....you don't need to go there to get good Chinese food anyway.

I second what 3 fingered said about Seattle.

Do Pike Place Market...some of the freshest fruit you'll ever see.

Take the Harbor Tour...it's Pier 19 I think.

Hit the Space Needle and if it's possible get reservations for dinner or lunch there...spectacular view and good food.

And hey, maybe take in a Mariners game or just tour the stadium if they're not playing.

In Seattle - If you're into music at all, you have to go to the Experience Music Project.

    Best. Place. Ever.

Thanks all, esp. Gus & Pole. Info has been passed along.

I'll be up there in 3 weeks, so this is useful for me as well.
