I would check out the beach, it is free and their are some nice visual stimulations.

Why not go over and check out Hollywood?

 

Stay out of Hollywood, it sucks. I would recommend going a Clips game, The Staples Center is one of the best facilities you'll ever see. Its like a friggin Airport in there.

If you can't find anything to do in LA, then you're not trying hard enough...My dream LA itinerary:

Afternoon on a beach: I've heard so many great stories about the fine women there, that I'd have to check it out for myself

Venice Beach pickup hoops: I probably wouldn't be able to get in a game, but there is supposed to be some excellent pick up ball to watch over there...Maybe find out if The King and Duck are real guys.

Jackrabbit Slims: I better get to sit in Marilyn Monroe's section!

Hawthorne Grill: The infamous resturant hold up scene in Pulp Fiction. One day, I'll get to tell my grandchildren that I sat in the same booth as Samuel L. Jackson

Rodeo Drive: mostly for my wife

Magic Mountain: Supposed to have some of the best coasters in the country

Dodgers game: Just to taste a Dodger Dog. I heard that chili isn't available, though, which would suck...

 

Visit Venice Beach, and have a meal at Roscoe's Chicken n Waffles.

 

Manhattan or Newport Beaches (whether you are in LA or Orange county).

If you like breakfast and are headed to Manhattan Beach, drive down PCH a little ways to the Original Pancake House in Redondo Beach. Manhattan and Newport both have great boardwalks that you can jog on or rent blades *you'll cover more terrirtory ). The eateries/bars in either are by their piers (Newport Beach has 2). You can also grab a volleyball net if you get to the beach early enough.

Universal City Walk is pretty cool, but obviously touristy, and you can hit Unversal Studios.

Magic Mountain was filthy and disorganized last time we went.

Gladsky's Seafood on PCH near Malibu is awesome for dinner around sunset.

You might like the Getty Museum (I found it less impressive than the Chicago Art Institute or the NY museums).

 

Are you referring to Gladstones?

I would recommend the Getty. It's a nice all-day trip, if you can find a parking space. It is less impressive than other museums around the country, but it's a good one if you like Van Gogh. The views are spectacular if it is a clear day. But I'm biased....I helped build the sonofabeeyatch!

 

Gladstones was one of the few places I enjoyed there. LA just wasn't for me, I guess.

San Francisco on the other hand.....

 

My favorite parts were Rodeo Drive (great architecture, great shops, nice cars, pretty woman building, and it doesn't take a lot of time) (10)

LA is spread out. Be prepared to travel long distances to get to stuff. My cab ride to universal was $40. oops.

Nice, but unless you surf or are into the young teen scene, the beach sucks compared to Manhattan or Newport, eh?

 

D*mn, my mind must be going. How can I confuse a chicken-fried steak institution from Lubbock to a Seafood restaurant on the Pacific?

 

I was about to add that we liked the building itself and view as much or more than the Art.

Like RMAN Tex said you need to go to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. There are several of these places all over LA, but I prefer the one on Pico and La Brea. While your there make sure you don't put your elbows on the table or "Momma" will smack yo at the back of your head. Also make sure you order a Lisa's Delight.

Sunset Blvd (for bars and the like, if you want to see LA ppl at night)

You can do a whole lot of things in LA, you just gotta know what you want to do.

 

I hear ya. I prefer modern art to what the Getty's collection centers on. But I do have a soft spot for the place...I worked there for 5 years, during the construction and grand opening of the Getty Center.
