I'll be attending a conference in Kansas City this Saturday until next Wednesday for work. I've never been there before and need to know some things to do up there and places to visit from those of you who have been up that way.

    Suggestions?

I hear the BBQ is good (wet style as opposed to Texas dry smoke).

2nd'd. although be prepared for long lines, and in general i find KC bbq can be a little too on the "wet" side for my taste.

Jack Stack (fiorella's) is a good alternative.

Check out the power and light district - it's their downtown revitalization effort. Would be on the lookout for the places filled with DB's though - don't say you weren't warned. Find a spot where the DB factor is tolerable

You can tell an area/place has blown up when it starts restricting entry into an establishment to create the allure of being exclusive and hot. See Jason Whitlock's story from last year on the subject.

Yep - seems like they've taken over all the cool areas in the big cities. Darn Jersey Shore influences, lol!

Well, I visited Arthur Bryant's, Jack Stacks, and Gates & Sons. Although the BBQ was good, it pretty much is all about the sauce up there and like basso said, it was a little too wet for my tastes but still good.

Big Momma's Bakery in Crown Center had some of the most delicious cinnamon rolls ever and they were huge!

The Shops at Crown Center were interesting too in that there weren't many of the chain stores you typically see in malls.

I thought the fountains that kids played in across the street from Crown Center were cool.

I took a 2 mile trip over to Kansas just to say I've been to Kansas.

Went to a Royals game and got extra innings and a walk-off hit. Watching baseball wasn't as boring as I thought it would be.

The Negro League Baseball museum and Liberty Memorial were nice.

Actually there was a lot more to do there than I thought. Good town.
