Seinfeld- I consider myself a reasonably intelligent guy, all the other reasonably intelligent people I know in person, think this show is pure unmitigated genius. I chuckle once about every 4 episodes.

Anime- I am a card carrying geek...Dungeons and Dragons freak from way back...Did the whole Rocky Horror thing for a time, used to spend weeks on end in a dank garage with mult-sided dice and no women in sight. All other people I know so afflicted love the Japanese cartoons.

The Matrix- Again I am a geek, this stuff should be right up my alley, I saw the original the first time on a small screen...I thought that was the problem...so I saw the first sequel on the most tricked out Dolby Sound theater I could find...nada

Britney Spears- I am supposedly a heterosexual, she is a nubile young hottie...but the thought of doing the horizontal mambo with this vapid little thing isn't appealing to me in the least.

Sushi- I have a reasonably adventurous palate....I have tried a lot of different kinds of sushi...don't like any of it...raw oysters either.

Country Music- I am from Texas for gawdsake....they are gonna excommunicate me from the state and cart my sorry a@@ off to New Hampshire.

George W. Bush- Again, I am from Texas....why does the current POTUS, who looks like the hail-fellow-well-met guy you meet at the company softball game, or in the pew in front of you at church make me nauseous. I am liberal, but I had no personal dislike for his dad.

American Idol- I like singing...I like talent shows...I hate this drivel

Soccer (Football)- Its the worlds sport, I try not to be a narrow minded American....I sit through 90 minutes for a 0-0 tie, I AM a narrow minded American.

Yankees/Red Sox/Cubs- Tradition, history, someone get me a barfbag.

3rd Person Shooter Video Games- Again...I was such a geek in HS that I couldn't even get a popular kid to sneeze on me...Why are sports games my only video game vice.

Well thats my short list....what do you dislike that you feel like you should like.

    Cool thread idea! :)

I'm with you here. I never really understood the appeal. Outside of a handful of movies and shows, I never got into it.

    Mine:
Being a child of the 80's, I'm apparently supposed to love Transformers and Thundercats. I actually despise them and think they are among the worst cartoons to ever air.

I love the old Ninja Turtles cartoon but don't really like the comic that it was loosely based on. Likewise, I dislike the new show that is much more faithful to the comics.

I like Ben Stiller. I like Robert DeNiro. I hate "Meet The Parents."

Seinfeld: Either you get it or you don't, I guess. It's just right up some people's alleys. I think it's not only the best sitcom ever, but the only sitcom worth watching. So many subtleties, so many layers, you could write a thesis. Well, not you. Someone who likes it. Me.

Anime: I don't pay enough attention to even begin to get it. I love Spirited Away, though. All the fighting stuff is really annoying, at least the little I've seen.

    The Matrix: Yawn.

Britney Spears: Less hot with each passing day. Personality (yes, I said personality) brings her down about a thousand notches.

Sushi: I had some crab stuff, it was okay. I'm not going out of my way to try it again, though. Who says you're supposed to like Sushi, anyway?

Country Music: You are not supposed to like country music made after Nashville Skyline. Unless it's Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, or Neko Case.

    George W. Bush: D&D...

American Idol: You are not supposed to like this.

Soccer (Football): If you had a non-American team to root for (England in my case), you'd understand. Every minute is agonizing...so many instances that appear to be breakthroughs...fewer real opportunities...virtually no success. It's sadistic.

    Yankees/Red Sox/Cubs: I like this stuff.

3rd Person Shooter Video Games: Meh. Not into games much anymore. I've been stuck in the elevator on Pandora Tomorrow for about a month. No motivation here.

    ------

I don't think Lindsay Lohan is that attractive. Gasp!

I'm with you on the FPS games those things give me motion sickness.

Some things I am supposed to liek and don't:

Country Music. I live in a fairly rural area where Country is prevalent. I hat e it. I would rather listen to someone scratch on a chalkboard instead.

Pepperoni Pizza- I haven't eaten Pepperoni since I was about 10. too greasy and I prefer Canadian Bacon.

Big Ass pickup trucks- See Country Music.

Coming from a family where I'm pretty much the only one that actually likes anime, I tend to think of the stereotype that most people actually don't like it, but I love it. You just gotta know which ones to watch, because not every anime is going to follow the stereotypical answers I know most people who don't like anime give. Not all anime has big alien like eyes. Not all anime involves a triangle moving mouth, or a voluptously disproportionate female body with tentacle rape or sex scenes. Not all anime is going to have 10 minutes of talking before an actual fight scene like DBZ. There is actually some pretty sophisticated stuff out there that's worth watching. For instance I'm watching anime about a mafia and two thugs who started off at the bottom all the way to the top as bosses. One is the brains of the two while the other is this gun wielding badass who goes all out to protect the brains of the operation. There's a lot more to the plot obviously but I **** you not it's a really well played out anime that would fit right up a Soprano lovers alley. Sure some is cheesy and takes a hell of an imagination to buy into but really so is a lot of the craps shown on tv. People that don't like anime are kind of like the people that don't sushi I've noticed. You gotta know where to look to get good sushi instead of going to some ****ty asian buffet with sushi that's been laying under a snot screen all day. With anime you gotta know which ones to view in order to avoid all the crap that is often made.

Dallas Cowboys: America's team? Give me the other country's team then. And I live in the Dallas area, so I'm sick of it all.

Lakers: Isn't that who we're all supposed to love? I mean they keep forcing their games onto broadcast TV for goodness' sake. Please show me some Indy, or Minny!

Friends: Some things should have shut down when "Y2K" hit. In fact the "big finale" was the first episode I watched all the way through since '99. I don't think I really missed a beat.

Gasoline prices: I'm supposed to be glad that I have the privilege to even buy gas and drive my car freely as I choose, and that our supply of gas is so plentious. I find myself wanting to boycott unleaded lately. Anyone else see that segment on the news about the lady with the used cooking oil powered car? I gotta get one of those.

Money: There was a time when I felt this could solve most of my problems. Now I realize it is indeed the cause of my problems, and it sticks its tongue out, and thunbs its nose at me while I chase it down to make it repay what I've lost.

Technology: Sure it seems as though a lot of new things can make life easier, until you realize you've got to learn to use them, and that someone else is now well aware of your every-digitally-recorded-move. Big brother ain't just a TV show... which brings me to...

Reality TV: Get real. That cannot be "impromtu" or "coincidence" at all. For goodness' sake, they're aware that they're being filmed. How is this reality? "Survivor" is a show better dubbed "Controlled Experiment" or "Preserved By Process of Democratic Elimination."

Election years: I know it's a 'D&D' topic, but... Why do candidates think we want to see their smear tactics for 10 months straight? If people would educate themselves we'd prove that we don't need the candidate's help to decide.

Olympic years: Hey look! A bunch of people running around possessing true "world championships" and "world records" that no one knows by name, and will soon forget. One huge humanism-fest... and for what? World peace? Visualize it. Yea, right... Can't, can you? World peace doesn't look AT ALL like a competition. World peace is cooperation, not who can out do the other. That's for the NFL... for the Dallas Cowboys.

After all, they're "America's Team" ya know? And competition is the "American Way."

Yep. I'm supposed to like a lot of stuff. But I don't.

    Nice thread idea. ;)

Coca-cola and all other cola-flavored drinks - I am convinced that they are still putting in coca plant additives as I have drank this only twice in my life and hated it both times. It is how I imagine turpentine would taste - I am not particularly inclined to drink turpentine so I will never drink Coke again.

Sonic Youth - Because of their indisputable musical contributions and because I am a true music snob (see ima drummer's post on the last page of the Worst Band's thread), I should adore this band. But all I hear is feigned NYC attitude (I think most of them actually grew up in Connecticut), terrible vocals and bad guitar tones. I must be missing the chromosone that would make me appreciate them.

Rap/hip-hop music - It just seems too repetitive to me. I feel like yelling, "For god's sake, introduce at least one change." I won't call it crap, but I won't listen to it either.

Dancing - It's good exercise. It depends on music. It's a great way to meet women. But I just can't do it.

Goodfellas - Bores me to tears. The narration and cinematography seems TV-quality to me as well. I'd rather watch Problem Child 2 (which thus could start a new thread - Things you Like that you should Despise).

Jennifer Garner - She's hot and she kicks ass. But I can't get past that chin.

Seinfeld- Witty at best, certainly no Newsradio... Kramer made it decent.

Anime- Why on earth would I want to see a teenage girl with 5-inch nipples, eyes as big as dinner plates and green hair get raped by mechanical tentacles then have her innards ripped out and served on a platter to a naked merman.

The Matrix- I like guns, I like slow-motion kick ass action, I like double-speak and hidden meanings.

Britney Spears- Brunette in a school girl outfit = my fantasy. Blonde Haired w**** Madonna wanna be = major turn off.
I wanted to bone her when I was 15, now It's all about Lindsay

Sushi- I hate mostly all asian food, give me a steak or some kick ass mexican food smothered in hot sauce.

Country Music- I liked it when I was 9, now it's all about hip-hop.

George W. Bush- He's a God-fearing man and that means a lot to me.

American Idol- Don't watch TV and certainly don't watch idiots trying to impress people who are barely famous themselves.

Soccer (Football)- I respect the fact that Soccer is lived and breathed everywhere else... but this is America and when I watch football, I'm not talking about hairy european dudes ripping off their shirts and piling on top of each other every time a goal is scored.

    Yankees/Red Sox/Cubs- I don't really like baseball. Go Twins.

3rd Person Shooter Video Games- I'll take a kick ass old NES side scroller over this crap any day of the week.

Pam Anderson, to me, she looks way to fake and made up.

Tea, never liked it never will.

Any other pro sports team in Texas, don't wanna root for those bastards and don't have too.

Reality TV......I find it all annoying. That and my reality is a hell of lot more interesting.

    Krispy Kreme.....yuk

BMWs....their SUVs are an insult to the genre, their cars are overpriced, and their 3-series is too small for the money. I'd rather buy a loaded Audi or Infiniti and spend the extra $5000 on a nice trip to Tuscany (which is exactly what my wife and I did!!!)

I'm with you, and I like to think of myself as geek too. I played D&D, and I would play it again right now if I knew people around me that wanted to play and would be good to play with. I play computer games a lot etc. But I really don't have any kind of love for Anime, except one movie, and Speed Racer, if that counts.

As for country music. What kind have you heard? Have you heard Texas folk country? Have you listened to real country, or have you been listening to what passes for country on most country stations... i.e. Faith Hill, The Dixie Chicks, most of the other pop they try and classify as a country these days.

Listen to some Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Robert Earl Keen, Terry Allen, The Derailers, Buck Owens, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank Williams sr., Gary P Nunn, etc. Even if at first you don't like it, just listen to it a little to get familiar with it. Then should you ever move far away from Texas you will really grow to appreciate that kind of music.

    Everyone raves about...

    The White Stripes
    Franz Ferdinand
    Death Cab for Cutie
    The Vines
    The Strokes
    The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    [enter other indie band here]

... and I just think they suck.

I've desperately tried to get "hip" with today's music, but it's just a bunch of kids screaming into a microphone with untalented musicians behind them playing the only 3 chords they know. (Make it much more mellow, and you have DcFC.) Where's the talent? Where's the hook? This isn't music I can tap my foot to or sing along with. Christ, this isn't even music.

I guess I really AM getting old. So, excuse me now while I cower back to my corner and go listen to Phish, Led Zeppelin, U2, Dave Matthews, etc. You know... bands that can actually play music. Remember them?

    Rant over. Seacrest... out.

Famous beautiful women. Everyone gets worked up about this girl or that girl and it bores me to death, and I'm not gay.

Rap music. I quit liking rap years ago. I still like the old-school stuff though.

Sports. I like the home teams (love the Rockets) and could care less otherwise.

    War.

Hummers. I hate those stupid cars and the people who drive them.

    Anything Extreme.

    VS,

I'm so with you re: the music of today. I hated the White Stripes at first. The first song I heard from them was 'Fell In Love With a Girl.' I still don't like that song. It didn't help that MTV was pimping them out on TRL.

Anyway, I listened to some of their other songs, and I was blown away. You seem to have the same music taste as me, so I urge you to try them again. It would be a disservice to you not to. If you want, I can upload some MP3s of the better songs.

I could lose my status as a Texan for some of this...

Starbuck's- Or any other coffee for that matter. Tastes terrible and it makes me feel terrible. (No wonder 'bucks has nice bathrooms...)

Beer - No sir, I don't like it.

New Country Music - Not that I listen to much of it anyway but I don't like any of the new stuff. (Newer than Randy Travis the last time the cassette was state of the art technology.)

Baseball - Never played as a kid, can't watch for more than 10 minutes unless it is game 7 of the world series and then I'm still flipping around. Funny part is I could watch golf non-stop for HOURS.

    W - Dip your toe into D & D and you'll know why...

Straight party ticket voters - Grow a brain.

Fraternities - Join a frat, rent a friend.

College Football - I just lost a lot of people on that one...

Dancing - I seriously can't conceive of why any straight guy would enjoy dancing except as a method to pick up women. I just don't get it.

Horror Movies - Why would you want to get the crap scared out of you for 2 hours? I'm married, I can get that at home for free.

Huge SUV's - People have NO FREAKING CLUE how to park or drive drive those monsters.

Church - WOW! I take my personal faith as just that, personal. I don't need any more "friends", I don't need to volunteer for anymore stuff, and I don't need people I barely know calling me brother. I'll just love me some Jesus from home and read my Bible and watch Joel Osteen thank you very much.

Online games like Starcraft - I ... uh... ya .. what?... maps ... oh wtf, don't you have Ms. Pacman on this thing?
