Things get tense between Agassi and Sampras at Charity match

Totally uncalled for by Andre. Pete was right to be upset.

Pete should have done some more meth kinda things.

 

Why is being called a bad tipper taken so personal? Sampras with thin skin, when he was the first to mock Andre.

These 2 guys were ultra competitive and fair weather friendship aside, they wanted to beat each other every chance they get. Like the Bird and Magic rivalry, but not as friendly.

 

I agree, if you are willing to dish it out, you have to be able to take it as well. Sampras should have laughed it off, instead he made it awkward.

 

Imitating someone's gait is one thing, calling someone cheap in front of a crowd who knows nothing about Sampras personally, is a different thing. If Agassi had just imitated Pete's serving motion it wouldn't have been a big deal. Andre made it personal by going after a character flaw of Pete's. Two totally different things.

 

Sampras won more grand slams, but Agassi made more $$$ overall, was more popular amongst the fans, got more media coverage (for both his ups and his downs), and ended up marrying somebody who was more successful than either of them at her sport. Also, Agassi won all the grand slams (Pete never won the French... and never came close).

Sampras may feel just the slightest bit bitter that despite all those wins, he's never going to live up to Andre's presence.

 

Sampras completely overreacted to that little joke.

 

Sampras and Agassi have always been known to be the biggest jackasses in their sport. They also were also some of the least liked players by their own peers. This is in stark contrast to Federer and Nadal, who are genuinely some of the nicest and most well liked of champions to play the sport.

 

I thought that was great...I think Andre took it a bit far when continued to press about the being cheap thing. But really, when Andre made the initial joke, Pete took offense to it way too quickly. If he had brushed that off, then it wouldnt have escalated to where it went.

 

seems like a bizarre inclusion...doesn't really have anything to do with anything, nor does it mean anything. you are saying it like every man in the world was vying for steffi graf, and agassi beat sampras out for her.

 

It wasn't really that serious...seemed a bit awkward, though. And man, do they look old?!

Nothing wrong with a little back and forth rivalry. Pete did get offended though and he should have just brushed it off...

In case you guys dont know, Andre has that pigeon toe walk because of a problem he has with his lower back vertebra. It was a medical condition that was diagnosed when he was younger and it basically forces him to walk in that manner.

With that in mind, Pete's imitation may have struck a personal chord with Andre. Regardless, Sampras took the tip joke waaay too personally.

 

Completely agree. I think Andre was in the wrong more than Pete on this.

 

I didn't get the Obama line. Sampras is awkward and sensitive. Good thing he isn't 10-15 years older, McEnroe would have cut him to pieces.

I'd love to see that...

And yeah, cheap tippers annoy me...I dont have much money at all, but I also know that the valet guy, my waiter/waitress, the delivery man, etc... they're obviously not doing that because they want to, its because they have to for the time being to make ends meet. If you have the money to give it to those that are in a tough financial spot, then you should. An extra 5-10 dollars will go a long way for them while it really doesnt keep me from doing anything that I want.

So yeah, I dont mind Pete getting called out on it.
