Things are dark - if we somehow unload Westy for something good do you come back on board?

The rocket ship is rickety. Lots of people jumping off. Let's say we get some combination of a draft consideration, a decent role player and an expiring for westy.

Do you let that seed of hope germinate? Covid Vaccine in January, large restaurants reopen, etc?

Im already hopeful after we got two firsts and Ariza for Covington. That was just a little proof that Stone isn’t completely stupid.

I am on board as long as harden stays. That is my only hope.

Stone just got more for Covington than we gave up for him.

Pick 16 and a Lottery protected 2021 pick (much better draft) vs. Pick 17 and Pick 22 in this shitty draft.

I trust Stone to make the right trades where we don't siphon value. I keep repeating this and no one believes me. Stone will not trade at a loss unless he is forced to do so. He is a transactional attorney by nature, he knows how to value assets and he knows how to not give up too much out of panic.

Covington is an incredible role player (top tier) but we got market + value even though I think he's worth the #5 pick (i may be a homer).

I'll stay and watch the smoldering ashes of the franchise Harden destroyed as they slowly rebuild over many, many years. It won't be very fun, but the Rockets had a nice run.

    Is Tilman going with him?

Otherwise no, I'm still a Rockets fan and will always want them to do well, but I'm not gonna get emotionally caught up in a cheap incompetent franchise. It's like willingly being in an abusive relationship.

They'd vaccinate vulnerable population and key sectors first so it would take several months the least.

Maybe but I would think he would only win marginally in those trades.

It would take much more to start a rebuild comfortably.

You'd need to get your hands on an Allstar caliber first.

Atlanta got Trae, Dallas Luka, Memphis Morant.......even mediocre teams have a lead there.

More teams have done right with top picks, draft busts have decreased, or teams have gotten better at figuring them out.

Morey had not clearly won a trade since the Harden deal. He always gave up just a smidgen too much to get what he wanted. He got good players but always gave up a little too much. CP3 he couldn't find a way to keep the pick or Montrezll Harrell using his magic (Stone's idea) to find marginal players to trade for added salary for matching.

This doesn't necessarily signify a rebuild. Let's see what happens with these picks. Attaching them to Eric Gordon sure does make it easier to find a big man who could be the center of the future. Myles Turner or Christian Wood seem a lot more realistic than they did 24 hours ago.

I don't mean good like replacing 27 ppg, I mean like "some positive value"

I don't get how the CP3 deal is not an unqualified success- Rockets went from also rans in a league where the consensus was that nobody should even bother to try to compete with the Warriors dynasty to the hands-down best team in basketball and it took a hamstring, scott foster and bad luck to derail them.

hell even if you know the results you make that trade over and over again.

It really depends what one considers positive value. That’s what a lot of cf’s disagrees on

Wouldn't call Myles or Wood Cs of the future.

    Myles should be above Wood.

I think they are borderline stars if I am being optimistic maybe but not enough in the West.

I didn't mean faces of the NBA, I mean the Centers for this team going forward. Both are fairly young and fit into a modern NBA. Whether it's a rebuild or a re-tool I would take Myles Turner or Christian Wood to be a foundational piece next to Ben Simmons or James Harden.

A retool would only work for the remaining years of that Harden contract but I guess he just refused an extension.

I'd be interested in the regular season record without James.

All I want is a successful vaccine to be widely distributed by August so I can put kids in school.

But beyond that, I'd be happy just to get some picks. Picks are hope. And with the Til Men at the helm, we will only have hope.

Me too. But a number of factors determine how close I pay attention to them. One of them is which way the team is trending. The Rockets, IMO, have been trending the wrong way ever since Paul got hurt in the Warriors series and subsequently losing that series. Assuming Harden and Russ are gone, once the dust settles, whatever team we have left will have a lot of room to improve (trend the right direction).

Yea I know, watching a team rebuild isn't a fraction of the excitement of playing for a championship.

But there is another thing I might like better post-dust Rockets. Harden this. Harden that. Harden bla bla, Harden what?, Harden, Harden Harden. So tired and burnt out on the Rockets narrative digging into everything Harden. I wish the guy well. What I am saying is no diss on Harden at all. Its the media and the fans and what they fill my head with constantly, incessantly and completely.

I was here all through the whole Astros rebuild. I can do it again . And at the end of it, it was pretty satisfying.

Most of us knew it was over when we traded CP3 for Westbrook.

What is happening now was inevitable.
