I just heard on french television TF1 that Thierry Henry has reached an agreement with Red Bulls New York and will join the club next season. This is an article yesterday that was predicting the move. TF1 is a reliable source, being a national television, and it seems that they have reached an agreement today. Also, there are rumors that Raul might join the squad aswell. This is BIG news imo. Because contrary to Beckham, Henry will have a much bigger impact on the league due to the position he plays. It's going to be interesting to see how he performs.
While not at the peak of his prime he is still IN his prime, this would be a major coupe for the MLS. DD
I very much dislike him, but this is good I guess. Maybe one day the MLS could compete with Europe for the top players (in their prime). Weird that soccer is pretty widely played in the US and A, especially by the youth, but have not produced any superstars. Bad coaching?
i agree, if he's utilized properly. i'm glad the MLS is getting another big name after the galaxy's misuse of beckham.
Man, that franchise is turning it around quickly. Red Bull Arena is beautiful and Henry wouldn't have gone there had it not been built. Moves like this, and any potential move by Raul, are good but don't do much to sooth my worries about the league. I'm afraid they're expanding much too fast, which will cause dilution of talent in an already thin league. Once all teams get their own venues, they can begin to improve their talent levels. But as long as San Jose plays in a college baseball stadium and DC United is stuck in RFK, those teams will continue to suffer while clubs like New York, Los Angeles and Seattle utilize their deep pockets to fund a winning product.
I'm hoping once the Dynamo get their new stadium built, we'll be a destination for some bigger named players. As of right now, who in their right mind would want to come play at Robertson? It's downright embarrassing compared to New York's, Seattle's, and LA's fields.
not even big name college football players want to play there. I would guess that an all world soccer player would also not have any interest. I dont follow soccer but a new stadium for soccer is good for the economy and for the fans.
Its official. I'm excited b/c he will be playing against Tottenham when they play in NY. Henry to the RedBull
