If he could be had for cheap, Id like to get him. Although Scola/Landry/Hayes make a nice Pf/C combo, we do need a big guy for when one of our rookies gets in foul trouble, and when Deke can't play more then 16 mins (most nights) http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/wolves_waive_theo_ratliff_080228.html
He is reportedly going to Detroit. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-timberwolves-ratliff&prov=ap&type=lgns But it might be worth a phone call before he gets out his ball point pen to sign on in Detroit..............we could explain the whole "our winter is nicer and we don't have an income tax thing" to him.
I could care less if he play only 15-20 minutes as long as he rebound and block shots. I'll give him minimium veteran. We can not be too picky about it! cause we got issues that we need to address fast!
Still haven't seen anything official about him signing with Detroit. He might be worth having on the bench for the Vet minimum salary.
remember yao dunked on ratliff in atlanta and yelled at him. i think it was his sophomore year but maybe his rookie year
Ratliff is actually one guy that I'm interested in. What the Rockets lack in the playoffs against the elite teams will be size and Theo brings size and tough defense. I saw him once ealier this season when he blocked four shots in four minutes. The guy still has something left in the tank and could provide some isurance for Deke.
I have to agree, Ratliff would be an excellent addition. When he's actually healthy, I think it can be argued he's one of top 10 shot blockers in the game. I'm not sold on his rebounding (btw he's only listed at 235 pounds), but its clear we need something. The good teams are going to start pounding the ball in to the middle knowing there will be no shotblocking threat 65-70% of the time. Also most NBA rookies hit the rookie wall. I don't consider Scola a rookie (27, 2007 FIBA MVP), but Landry is about to experience the most intense basketball of his life. Let Theo take a load of the pressure.
When he was bought out on Friday, they said he would sign with the Pistons, but it hasn't been announced yet by the NBA or by the Pistons, and he is not on the Piston's 15 man roster. At this point, I think he is too late for post-season play. But he would still be a good addition for the Rockets to spell Deke.
