Every year about this time, I say a little prayer for the Rox to help them with the upcoming season (since everyone knows that God loves to help athletes ). Dear God, As the Rockets approach the upcoming season, I have a few words of thanks and a few requests. Thank you for the addition of Shane Battier. I think he will be a solid addition to this team and I hope that you will help him to develop chemistry with Yao and TMac. Thank you for Yao's return to health and for not smiting him as you did Gasol in the WC. Thank you for the infusion of youth and energy that we have seen this offseason. Please help to keep our guys healthy this season. Please help Luther to shoot all season like he did in November of 2005. Please help VSpan get used to the NBA game as quickly as possible. Our Father, who art in Heaven, help the Rockets play their game. Let us have fun on a championship run on the road as well as T-Center. Give us each day our daily win and forgive us our flagrants as we forgive those who foul hard against us. Lead us not into the lottery, but deliver us from trauma. For thine is the Arena, and the Chemistry, and the Parade, for ever and ever. Amen
Win or lose, I just want to see the Rockets play to their potential at 100% health. If I AM to make a prayer, I'll really just ask for them to be healthy day in and day out, Tmac's back to not be a problem as well as Yao's foot. Honestly, I want them to win, but I want to see how they fare as a unit and healthy.
I like the picture of the little boy kneeling at his bed praying with the caption, "Please God, make it stop." As for the Rockets, my abiding prayer is that Management will be given a brain. Supposedly, they recently got one, it (he) just hasn't been used yet. Well, maybe a little. And if the new "brain" works, give it to the rest of Houston's sports teams, especially around draft days.
In 1997 I prayed hoping that the Rockets could win 2 more games to win the WCF against Utah. It didn't work.... I haven't prayed for a sporting event since. Well...I did for the Astros, but that was after Game 3 of the WS.
That prayer was weak, here's what you should be saying... O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle -- be Thou near them! With them -- in spirit -- we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. Help us to lay waste their hopes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring their hearts with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears. We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen
as much as i went to church as a kid, i never knew it was "art" (actually up until now). i kinda muttered when that part came along. anyway... rub-a-dub-dub... thanks for the rockets.
You haven't been praying since 1996 have you? Its not working. Maybe God is taking out all of the losing seasons on us because instead of praying for things like a cure for cancer or feeding the world or making the people of the world understand that peace is not possible when world leaders secretly in their hearts think each other are going to hell, but instead we ask for rich guys to win a basketball game, WE ROCK! Maybe its time to start praying to Satan this year ........GO ROCKETS........... and I don't mean to hell.
I guess it should be "Our Father which art in Heaven". If you dont say the 1st sentence of the Lord's Prayer right, God wont answer you.
