I am a long time fan of the Houston Rockets and I think that this coming season is the year of the rockets. Last year the players have learned a lot and gained some experience and chemistry. The rockets organization has kept this team intact and had good acquisitions in the draft. Dan Langhi is a great boost of the bench and Collier will learn a lot under Hakeem. I think that Hakeem will be in good shape this coming season and will be a 12/9/3/3 guy either as a starter or coming from the bench. Cato and Thomas has matured another year and has improved their game. The Cat is back, and Stevie the Franchise will be the league's premier point guard this coming season. I believe that we already have the players we need to go deep in the playoffs and contend. Any player that we get thru trades will be a big plus for the team. Though I think that we need a legitimate power forward. Who do you think would the Rockets get with our 4.5 M exception aside from Brad Miller who is being rumored?

I hope we go after PJ Brown- he is available I've heard since he and Derrick Coleman play the same position in Charlotte. He may be too hard to get for us, but I would be thrilled if we could somehow get PJ with the exception.

I vote PJ Brown also! He is a little old, but he looks like he keeps himself in shape, unlike Charles "fat ass blob" Barkley.

PJ was just involved in the trade to Charlotte. I doubt we have a shot.

PJ is 30 years old, so he's not that old. As for your comment on Barkley, it's totally ridiculous, and hopefully someone else will explain it to you. When they measured Barkley's body fat, and I remember reading about this, it was astronomically low. EXTREMELY low. Charles was in shape.

    Hoop-T,

The Hornets are looking to trade either Brown or Coleman, since both play the PF spot. Brown will be the one to go, as no GM in their right mind wants Coleman as their PF. However, you're right in that we have a very small chance, as the most likely scenario has PJ Brown going to LA for Glen Rice.

I'm not sure if they are free agents or if we can sign and trade them but Jason Caffey, Gary Trent and John Wallace are also good possibilities. Aren't they?

Charles went to a fat farm, and ate 1 apple a day for a month or something. Besides that, all he did was hike in the mountains. One summer does not make up for all those years of neglect.

I remember Charles announced to the press that he was giving up alcohol on game nights. LOL, what a sacrifice. BARKLEY IS A UNDERACHIEVING BUM, AND WAS NEVER CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER, MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY. QUITTEN WAS RIGHT ABOUT HIM.

    .....I feel much better now.

Also, I think PJ Brown is 31, but even if he is only 30, I was thinking in terms of finding a power forward that the young guys can grow up with. I still think Brown, with his defense and ability to hit the open jumper, could really help the Rockets for the near future.

I would rather have fat butt barkley than quitten pippen any day. At least barkley never b****ed and moaned about kukoc getting the ball at the end of a game.

i like the cat he always defends the rockets and the players on the team.as for charles, who cares if he wasnt in shape he probably is and was the biggest overachiever in the league.he worked harder than almost any 2 players.(by the end of the game you could fill buckets up with sweat)and he still stayed after the games.why eat right and stay in shape when you dont have to,besides barkleys ROUNDNESS was to his advantage.

as for pj i like him but i would take barkley THIS season over pj!!!

if he played this season he would still be among the leaders in rebounds.

Thanx The Cat and Rendiggler. I can't agree with you more about Sir Charles. He didn't win a ring because he played for the wrong teams at the wrong time. When he played for Philly, he was the only one who played to win a championship. When he was in Phoenix, he had great temmates and he was on top of his game, but he didn't really have a legitimate center to play alongside with. In Houston He had all the right players with him especially during his first year with the Rockets, the only thing lacking was a legit point guard like Steve Francis. During Barkley's last years with the Rocket, you'll never question his desire to win but age and yaers aof all the wera and tear playing against bigger opponents (which caused him a lot of injuries) caught up with him as well as his teammates Dream and Glide. But every Houston Fan would know that If Barkley Dream and Glide played together in their prime they could have easilly won a couple of rings.

Slow down there, buddy. I'd be thrilled if the Rockets slipped into the 8 spot. How exactly do you plan on going deep in the playoffs? Do you truly think the Rockets will be better than the Suns? Lakers? Portland? San Antonio? Not damn likely.

Francis will be very good next year... maybe even an all-star. But even allowing for a better than average learning curve, he won't overtake Jason Kidd or Gary Payton next year. Maybe in two.

After Francis, we don't have another superstar (which even Francis isn't really quite yet). If Mobley scores 18 per game, and plays average defense, I'd be happy. But that isn't precisely a brilliant 1-2 punch. Shandon may score 14 while playing great D. The best I can see for Langhi is a rookie career of similar merit to Dickerson's... not much better. How does one contend with such a team? Collier, will be at best mediocre. Thomas, will be at best average. Hakeem might be decent, if he's healthy.

At best, I see us making the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I agree with Haven pretty much. We might make the playoffs and might make it to the 2nd round, but that's as far as we gettin.

I'm with you and haven too. I'm one of the optimists as everyone knows, but I am realistic too. To get past the 2nd round means we'd have to advance past either Portland or LA. We aren't to that level yet.

Guys I love the Rockets, but get real alaskansnowman, we ain't making it to the 2nd round. We would be pretty damn lucky to make it to the playoffs. If we did it would be the 8th seed and we would play the Lakers. Even if we somehow got the 7th seed, there ain't no way we are getting passed San Antonio. We would be lucky if we didn't get swept if we make the playoffs. I have faith in the Rockets, but expecting or predicting that much at this point of the rebuilding process is ridiculous. I mean Minnesota with Kevin Garnett and Terrell Brandon, and KG with Stephon a couple years back couldn't even get passed the 1st round. The seeds would probably look like this:
    1-Lakers
    2-Spurs
    3-Blazers
    4-Suns
    5-Wolves
    6-Jazz
    7-Kings
8-between Mavs, Sonics, and maybe us

What a load of crap about Barkley!!! His Suns were up in the series against Houston, and they lost because BARKLEY CHOKED!!! BARKLEY IS NOT A WINNER, BECAUSE WINNERS POSSESS CHARACTER!!!

.....thanks for helping me get that off my chest.

When the Rockets beat the Suns that year, and Barkley pushed Dream to the ground in frustration on the last play, that act said it all for me. Sir Charles SUCKS! THANK GOD HE IS GONE!!! ...whew, thanks again..

YES, I love the way realism is spreading.

    jaworski,
I love your optimism, but there is no way we will go from a 30 win team to winning the title in one season, on the back of langhi and collier and a year more experience for the other players.

For me the rockets will be overacheiving this season if they make the playoffs, another lotto won't hurt either and realistically 40 wins will be a great accomplishment and can be acheived if they win the games they lost last season to the crappy teams.

lilstevie: I don't think the Rockets would get to the 2nd round... if the best team always won. That doesn't, however, always happen. Remember in 94-95 when the Denver Nuggets upset the #1 Sonics? I do. And I think Francis and co have enough youthful talent, energy, and enthusiasm to pull off an upset. This is premature as hell, I know... but the team isn't that bad. Late last year, they were a playoff team, and they'll only improve.

I'm not *certain* they'll make the playoffs. But they have a chance. I doubt they'll make it to the 2nd round, but I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility.

I'm not naive enough to say the Rockets will win a title this year... but I see reason enough to hope that they'll be a nifty little team with some spunk and upset potential.

The Rockets will win 45 games max.
    I say realistically 41.

    You guys are all CRAZY!!

    Collier will get
    18ppg 9rpg and 1.2bpg

    Langhi will get
    22ppg and 6rpg

    and we'll win the title!!!!

How can you possibly say that we don't have the best team in the NBA after adding 2 superstars like Collier and Langhi?????
