There is another funny Yao-Ming Vedio http://v.blog.sina.com.cn/b/1830656-1073466942-1.html It is about Yao got owned in WoW The reporter asked Yao what have he been doing lately. Yao replied I just got owned by some (?? level) Tauran Warrior. The said Tauran ride past Yao's hunter wth an elite mount, killed Yao's pet bird, then proceeed to own the basketball star. And Yao said it is lack of class "I wanted to condamn that Tauran Warrior!!!" - quote of our big guy PS: Sorry OT for interrupting your thread. I found this funny vedio clip just few min ago on a Chinese game site (www.gamer.com.tw). But I am just a rookie and can't start a thread. Hopefully, there is someone that can help to start it. Thanks alot
Doesn't the Wild Thing song say that Yao Ming comes from Beijing? I know it was done for the sake of rhyme, but Big Yao is from Shanghai! Would this be like saying someone from Houston comes from Dallas?!?!
its a cool song, but i always get annoyed at the part where they say hes from beijing, china. not only is that wrong, but while they say that, they show video of yao infront of the pearl tower, shanghai's biggest land mark
little unknown fact about Shanghai. The city got its name from the rich Shang family that largely controlled the ports and much of the land that is present day Shanghai for the better part of the Manchurian dynasty. Due to their wealth, the family was exceedingly large and pretty much everyone in Shaghai was named Shang. On a typical day, all you would hear in the streets were people greeting those named Shang "Shang! Hai!".
what have you been smoking man; just go google it; the city existed long before the last dynasty; and i don't think i've heard anyone with the last name Shang written in the same character as shanghai's shang
OK, so I'm going to state the obvious. Shanghai doesn't rhyme with Ming or Thing or Sing. Beijing does. It's a cheesy song, but it's pretty fun.
IROC it, ripped it and uploaded it for you and whoever else wants it: http://download.yousendit.com/A09968D741329A86
Probably more analogous to NY and LA since they are the biggest cities in China and quite far apart from each other (though not opposite sides of the country). But no one from LA would get upset for being called a New Yorker, would they? I am sure Yao finds the video funny and does not care about the error.
I like that wild thing video...I saw it at the game, it was funny. Some of the players were watching it during the timeout too.
I'm the dude in the throwback 1972 red Yao jersey doing the I'm-not-worthy bow... Last week when we were on TNT they started showing this video and they cut it off RIGHT before I came on
That's what I asked the guys who made the song. They said they were aware that Yao was from Shanghai, and both Yao and Rockets assented to the song. It's still pretty dumb if you ask me.
I call BS. The "shang" of "Shanghai" is not a surname. And the idea of the greeting "Shang! Hai!" being shouted everywhere in the street sounds very far-fetched, especially considering that the "hai" of "Shanghai" means "ocean" or "sea," not "hi."
