I just watched Inception, the first movie I watched in lord knows how long. And then coming to D&D, made think about the world in fictional terms. Actually, our war on terror explained in Hollywood terms comes out pretty cliche.

America: Big evil empire bent on taking over the world with McDonalds, hollywood, etc. while leeching resources from poor countries around the world for their own use

    American president
: Evil overlord you constantly see on the big screen telling how he plans on doing good, all while secretly doing evil behind people's back

American people: People living in the evil empire who don't really know that they live in an evil empire. They go about their lives blissfully, only watching news that are pro-government, not knowing about how the rest of us lives. They support the evil empire due to the charisma of the evil overlord and his minions who placate them.

Middle Eastern governments: Henchmen for the evil empire, who provide the evil empire with resources to fuel the expensive lifestyle of those living in it. Of course, they are not part of the evil empire, so they feel no loyalty towards it. Therefore, sometimes they do things behind the evil empire's back, like using some money to fund those opposed to the empire.

Osama Bin Laden: The old sage, who is wise beyond his years and knows of how evil the evil empire is. He stands up against the tyranny of the empire, spreading his teaching among the "people"(I mean the impoverished people not living in the amazingly awesome evil empire). And gather like-minded freedom fighters who are willing to stand up to the goliath that is the evil empire.

Terrorists who carry out the attacks: The protagonists. Those who wish to change the world, to try to stop the evil empire from spreading their evil. They do not fear death. They are willing to do anything. They stay in the dark, walk among the people within the evil empire, pretending to be them, befriend them. Understand how things work. And then attack at the opportune time. Often times, the minions of the evil overlord catches them and tortures them. But they are not afraid. They try again and again until they succeed. They are relentless in their pursuit of justice, in punishing the evil that leeches life from their countries. And when they succeed, it's so glorious they go to heaven to 60 virgins.

I swear the plot perfectly follows the tried and true formula of countless books, comics, movies, etc. And if the story is actually told from the protagonist perspective, set in a make-believe world, I think most people would actually root for the terror... err... freedom fighters. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the American-ish perception of it and that everyone will have a perception of these things which is somehow biased in their favor.

That's so sweet. Now that you put it that way it all makes sense! I love those hollywood movies where the good guys are taking hostages and cutting their heads off, blowing up women to kill other innocent people, lighting children on fire, crashing planes into buildings, refusing to allow women to have rights, killing people for free speech and so much more! Sounds just like a hollywood script! Love them good guys in hollywood!

Or you can read this book about the acts of terrorism by America on their neighboring countries, and how the same policies have been used in the middle east. It reads as good as a script. There is also mention about the evil muslims, but they're viewed as heroes by president reagan for their brave battlefighting versus the glorious commies. Weird.

Or you can always watch Harold and Kumar 2. :p

The movie that is so much like 9-11 and the events following is "The Siege" from 98 I believe. With Denzel and Bruce Willis. its kind of scary.
