Following the 70's band thread I've noticed that people either really like The Who or don't like them at all with little in between. I personally am a fan but the previous drummer in my band hated them. I used to rile him up at practice by playing Townshend rifs.

So were do you stand on The Who?

Your drummer probably sucked then. I can't imagine any drummer not recognizing the genius of Keith Moon.

Obviously my answer is yes. Growing up, they were my favorite band.

He was a pretty good drummer but for some reason he hated cymbals.

Isn't that kinda like a guitarist hating guitar strings?

Very talented musicians with some of the absolute classic rock songs. That said...Pinball Wizard is one of the worst songs in the history of man.

To clarify my opinion on The Who

nope. I never liked them and I feel that they were/are very overrated.

I also feel the same way about The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac.

I liked some of Bob Dylan's music, but sheesh... the moment he opens his mouth it kills ths song. So, Dylan gets a thumbs down from me, too.

    That's my opinion.

There are more to drums than cymbals.

Yea, I like them, but like Zep, a small portion of there catalog is typically overplayed on the classic rock stations.

I know of them, but honestly not very familiar. You can probably rattle off a dozen songs and I've heard all of them and never knew Who did them.

There are a bunch of Who songs I love, a bunch of Who songs I am indifferent towards, and a bunch of Who songs I don't like at all. What other band can you say that about?

I'll never forget them totally stealing the show at the Concert for New York. Seriously, they should've just sent everyone home after they played.

Rimrocker, I totally agree. I have The Who Sings My Generation, A Quick One, Sell Out, Tommy, Live at Leeds, Odds and Sods, Whos Next, Quadrophenia, The Who by Numbers (personal favorite), Who Are You, Face Dances, It's Hard, and The Kids Are Alright. Absolute favorite of all time. Best live band, best musicians, excellent lyrics (I really do feel Townshend is only a notch below Dylan, and sometimes I can relate to his stuff more than Dylan), one of the best live albums, and the best documentary (Kids are Alright). It all started with Substitute, for me. That clinched it, and everything since has confirmed my opinion that they are the best.

I really like some of their songs a lot -but they are somewhat overrated as an all time great band.
