Why in the heck is school resuming on Tuesday, I think this is one of the dumbest decisions ever. I barely have gas to get to UH, let alone back. I still got to fix up my house, and we still have no power in my neighborhood. Dumb move UH. Write to the president letting her know of the stupidity... http://www.uh.edu/about/offices/president/contact
Same thing with UHD. It says its closed through Tues and that another update will be posted Tues. night. Hopefully they keep it closed the rest of the week. My brother is taking classes there and he is a police officer so now he is working 12 hr shift each day and at the same time he is worried about missing classes and tests that are coming up
Oh ya, those daily updates are even dumber. Do they really expect a city without electricity and phone service to check the "website" daily to see if school is open or not. I really feel bad for people who evacuated and do not really have a house to go back to, but have to worry about getting to school.
It is ridiculous. There's barely any gas in the city, most people have no power and can't shower in the water if they have it, and U of H plans to be open? All of their campuses are closed at least until Tuesday save for main.
METRO has announced no fares for the next couple days... many of the operating routes are listed on their site. http://metroresponds.org/go/site/1527/ Perhaps you could ride free to U of H?
normally I'd be all for school being postponed but for selfish reasons I'm anxious to get back because I have a physics test Friday and if they reschedule it it's going to be next Friday and I already have big ass plans for that day... But other than that i agree it is completely ridiculous that they expect people to go to school Tuesday
Especially if the only place you could get into was U of H (Bauer '02). It is strange that they're expecting class to come back in three days. They canceled it for a week-and-a-half after Allison; although that was in the Summer, they had actually lost power (the backup generator was underground and got flooded), and the UC Satellite, UC Underground, and I think Student Government and Student Radio/TV stations were destroyed.
Latest update says classes are still set to resume tomorrow, however all exams and projects due will be pushed back til next week.
UH's administration has always left something to be desired. I thought Khator wouldn't stand for this crap. I stand corrected.
I agree that this is true, but since gas is at a premium and most of the students at UH live in the outlying suburbs. This is a bad decision. I am sure many students have evacuated for a while as well. I think that this decision will soon be rectified after seeing how chaotic things currently are.
Classes are "nonmandatory" this week, attendance won't be taken, and all quizzes, tests, or due projects will be postponed until further notice. So.... is anybody going to class?
so basically its up to the people who miss class to make up the work... I hope the professors themselves cancel class. One cancelled this week already,
