In May 2020, Elon Musk tweeted “Take the red pill.” It was unclear precisely what he meant, but those with enough cultural context had a decent idea of what he was trying to say. That hunch was then affirmed by the enthusiastic response of Ivanka Trump, whose father became president at least in some minor part because of forces associated with the symbol that Musk was evoking. She quote-tweeted him cheerily: “Taken!” she said.

Less than an hour later, Lilly Wachowski chimed in. One of the two directors responsible for The Matrix—the film in which the modern concept of the “red pill” originated—Wachowski didn’t appear very pleased with these people, neither in general nor in regard to how they were continuing the strange legacy of her metaphor. “**** both of you,” she replied to Trump. The way they were tossing her symbol around was likely a lot different from what she and her sister, Lana, had in mind when, more than two decades earlier, they composed the indelible scene in which Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) has to choose between taking a blue pill, which would cause him to remain who he is in a fabricated reality, or a red one, which would officially transform him into Neo—the chosen one, who alone could take down the grand enslavers and illusion makers.

Are you trying to say Musk is a trump support because Ivanka responded to Musks tweet?

If the Wachowski's didnt want the very obvious symbolism between Republicans and Democrats, they should have chosen different colors.

For those who do not get caught up in conspiracy theories, its clear the red pill is to break free from the norm/institutions while the blue pill is to embrace institutions/government/politics.

Feel free to take whatever pill you want.

It's art. Once it's out there, like a song, it can be interpreted in numerous ways, from stupid to enlightening.

I saw the Airplane play in Houston in October of 1969. Poco opening, and then The Byrds and the Grateful Dead before Ms. Slick and the guys. It was great. There was a riot because the venue told them it was late (only midnight), that they had to quit playing, and they refused. So some off duty cops at the venue (the Coliseum, a god-awful place for a concert - I saw dozens there) marched up and milled around the stage, the Airplane keeps playing until the power is cut off. The crowd attempts to mob the stage.

The last thing over the mike from Grace was a hearty, "F*** you!" to the cops and the management. The previous bands had run long (the Dead, of course). I had made my way to the front, where I had been dancing with a girl I was with, got caught up in the melee, and somehow ended up taking home the end of one of the barricades. Those triangles with horizontal red stripes across them. Not sure how I managed it. The chick kept yelling, "What are you doing?" She stuck with me, though. I had that wooden triangle thingy for years. I wonder what happened to it.

Red states / blue states was post-Matrix & post 2000 election, prior to that, Dem states were sometimes red, and Republicans sometimes blue.

Yeah, I'm unperturbed about. What came to mind was all the misapplications of song meanings and urban legends that existed about them.
