Oct. 16, 2007, 2:11PM Jurors hear Temple's 911 call about wife's slaying By BRIAN ROGERS Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle Accused of executing his pregnant wife in 1999, jurors heard the voice of David Mark Temple this morning in opening statements in his trial for murder. "I can't breathe," Temple can be heard saying on a 911 tape. "Her brain is all over the floor." Temple is accused of shooting Belinda Temple in the back of the head as she was on her knees in the closet of their master bedroom at their Katy home. A former high school football coach, Temple said he found his wife after taking their 3-year-old to the park and then shopping in the afternoon. She was a special education teacher who had arrived home after school and went to lie down. "You can hear the pain in his voice," defense attorney Dick DeGuerin told jurors. "We can bring you the actual words, the actual pain in his voice." Members of the Temple family wept as they listened to the tape. Temple sat stoically. DeGuerin told jurors that David and Belinda were deeply in love. However, it was the fact that David was having an affair with another teacher, Heather Scott, that raised suspicion for investigators. In her opening, prosecutor Kelly Sieglerdetailed the illicit love affair between Scott and Temple. "He began lying, cheating and deceiving," Siegler said. "He was being very romantic to the new woman in his life." In the weeks before Belinda's death, Temple and Scott spent New Year's Eve and day together. Weeks after his wife's death, Temple sent Scott flowers for Valentine's day, Siegler said. Temple and Scott married two years after Belinda Temple's death and remain married. Scott is expected to testify in the trial. "The details will always tell you the truth," Siegler said. "Belinda Temple was executed by her husband." If convicted, Temple could face from five years of probation up to life in prison. brian.rogers@chron.com http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5213564.html --- A sad story. It's about time for the trial. If he's innocent, he put himself in a real crappy situation cheating on his 8 month pregnant wife. If he's guilty, he deserves life for taking two lives.
If he's convicted and gets anything short of life w/o parole, the system will have failed Belinda and the child-to-be.
I went to Katy High with David Temple. I haven't had any contact with him since. I think he's guilty.
Ditto. Signed, My sister. I know two of her fellow special ed teachers fairly well and they were saying he did it from day one.
I have a 2 year old son. Before he was born, I always felt bad when a kid got hurt or killed. Now, I get angry and sad. I just can't imagine how anyone could do this their flesh and blood.
I was gonna post this on Monday... I went to Hastings high school and I think I am the only student to have had both Temple and Scott as teachers. I had her for English her first year there before she moved to the freshman center. I had him twice for P.E. Ms Scott was really sweet. She would give me 10 points on tests weekly for reading entire chapters to the class. She even came to all my plays just to watch me. She was very flirty with male teachers. She even brought a photo of her doing the splits as a cheerleader! He was a prick. Everybody knew this. I remember mr. Holmquist (RIP) our principal telling me that he hoped coach Temple would " lighten up" after i had a couple of issues with him. Im curious to hear all the evidence. But I will say this... If he is found guilty, I wouldn't be surprised. P.S. Coach Temple if your reading this... Remember when u told me I wouldnt be nothing in life? I'm doing really good... How about u?
Defense attorneys are so sleazy. I guess they have to be to get their clients acquitted. The defense's theory is it was a burglary. Yet nothing was stolen. The defense says Temple was in love with his wife. Yet he was having an affair. The defense blames the police for limiting its investigation. Yet Temple is the only one with the motive. He's going to get off. Oct. 17, 2007, 12:14PM Jury sees bloody photos of ex-coach's slain wife By BRIAN ROGERS Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle TOOLS Email Get section feed Print Subscribe NOW Comments Accused of killing his pregnant wife, David Mark Temple shielded his eyes this morning as prosecutors showed pictures of the bloody closet and body of Belinda Tracie Temple who was on her knees when she was shot in the back of the head. Temple, 39, is accused of shooting Belinda Temple with a shotgun in the master bedroom closet of their Katy home on January 11, 1999. She was 8 months pregnant with the couple's second child, a girl they had decided to name Erin. A former high school football coach, Temple said he found his wife after taking their 3-year-old son, Evan, shopping that afternoon. Belinda Temple was a special education teacher who had just returned home from school. Jurors saw pictures of blood and brain matter on the wall of the closet. Prosecutor Kelly Siegler pointed out Belinda Temple's glasses on the floor near large pieces of brain matter. The lenses were shattered in the blast. Defense attorney Dick DeGuerin has said Temple was at a grocery store when the shooting took place. He told jurors Tuesday that David and Belinda were deeply in love, despite the fact that David Temple was having an affair with another teacher, Heather Scott. Scott and David Temple were married about two years after Belinda Temple's death. DeGuerin said Scott was a good stepmother to Evan. Still married, Scott is expected to testify in the trial. DeGuerin said investigators jumped to the conclusion that David Temple had killed his wife, which kept them from investigating other possibilities. In her opening, Siegler said Temple "executed" his wife. She said Temple staged a burglary to lead investigators astray. The back door of the home had glass broken out, but that it was strewn inside the house in a way that looked like the door had been open when it was broken, Siegler said. She said drawers had been opened, but nothing was missing. She also said a television had been laid on its side, but had not been unplugged from the electricity or the cable. The trial continues today in visiting state District Judge Doug Shaver's court. brian.rogers@chron.com http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5222051.html
As a former schoolteacher/coach, where is Temple getting the major league $$$ to hire DeGuerin as his attorney?
Yeah the guy was a PE coach for Alief ISD. There is no way he was banking. I'm wondering if DeGuerin took this case for the publicity. That or Temple took out a huge loan! He's effed if he wins. He's effed if he loses.
I've never been a detective, and I know nothing specific about this case. BUt it does seem like on all those shows where they detail people who've been wrongly convicted and acquitted afterwards, 90%+ of the time it is crystal clear afterwards that the police investigation tends to work towards a myopic focus on one and only one person. Again, not being a detective, maybe this is what you're taught and the best way to solve these types of crimes, but I can see how evidence can be seen to fit one party if that's who you want to be guilty. As to this case in particular, again not knowing the specifics, surely there is considerable physical evidence. I mean, gun shot residue, evidence that Temple owned the right gun, did they find the gun, etc.? Gun shot reside seems the most obvious, though.
