Well since the signing of Mr. Ariza, there have been several players that the fans here think Ariza can become offensively. From Iguodala to McGrady, some of us are hoping that Ariza is the dormant star that will break out now that he has come out from under the Black Mamba's shadows. He has the length, the athleticism, and the suspect field goal percentage that is included when talking about stars such as McGrady. He even has the questionable feet that may compare to Yao's. Personally, I think that it is delusional of anyone to believe that he doesn't have the ability to develop into something other than just a Battier 2.0. Hes still young and theres still room to grow. But I definitely do not see the McGrady comparisons that some try to bring up in threads. At 18 McGrady was far superior compared to even what Ariza is now. Not only does Ariza lack the ability to create, he also lacks the handles that Tracy has. I dont watch enough of Iguodala to make too much of a comparison but Iggy seems to have a stronger ability to get to the rim. (If anyone else can add to the comparison, I'd appreciate it) I just dont see him becoming the next Turkoglu or the next Richard Jefferson. He definitely has what it takes to become a consistent solid player just not the diamond in the rough that some are hoping he will transform into. My prediction would be,at best, he becomes a Rashard Lewis-Lite. (Coincidentally, I thought of this as I read about Lewis's positive drug test results)
I have not seen a guy that has established himself suddenly blossom in a new environment....in well...ever. I think he is a nice 12ppg Shane Battier type. DD
They actually did the same things just in a different environment....with slightly more playing time. If Trevor does what he has always done...again..12ppg. DD
But he is young and PROVEN in the nba and has potential to grow even more when he could be a featured offensive threat which has never had the opportunity to be oh wait sorry thats your reasoning for Von I keep forgetting it cant go both ways
I said he still has potential but some crazy posters in here are saying he can develop as a McGrady. Again, I said he does not have GREAT potential.
He could certainly could turn out great, I just can't recall a single player that was a supplemental scorer that didn't really have any dribbling creating skills to speak of suddenly turning into a great scorer. Tons of people like Von that attack the basket grow into more than that...because they can create.....can Trevor create? I haven't seen too much of it...maybe he can...I guess we shall see.\ And Trevor got $6 million, Von will get a lot less.....and fewer years....but one thing they are alike, they are the same age. DD
But one thing is for sure, Von has heart. I don't think the same can be said of Trevor. Who knows? Maybe that Laker team just stifled his emotions, I think next season will be enough to get a verdict on Ariza's potential. Was he great because of KB24? We'll find out..
I actually think he will thrive in the drive and pop system with Brooks and eventually TMAC along with a bigger role in the "O"... 15 ppg 5 rpg and 3-4 apg
Have you seen the way Ariza played on the Lakers? With determination and passion night in and night out. I love players like that!
