The Trailblazers, more like Jailblazerss http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf?/base/sports/1106917050236710.xml That is ridiculous. They should move Maurice Cheeks out of Portland and blow that whole ****ing team up.
He should be suspended! That just HORRIBLE! Its ****ing sad how a guy gets payed millions of $$ to so somthing another guy does for fun. This reallllllllly ticked me off, who the hell does this guy thing he is?
Guarenteed salary is purely evil. David Stern has to stand up to these millionaire thugs in the new CBA meeting. Or, a season or two should be cancelled to punish them. We fans CAN stand the loss of a season if it disciplines these players.
Man, the management and front office for the Blazers are terrible. Someone really needs to go in and fire these a-holes one by one. It's ridiculous.
It should be out there that this is not as uncommon among teams as one might think. Shaq cussing out Tex Winter (essentially telling him to f off) is detailed in Phil Jackson's book, for example. Evan
Whatever happened to Steve Patterson? I thought he/they were going to kick the miscreants out of Rip City and restore a little dignity to the place, but they let Nash sign problem children like Miles and Randolph to whopper long term deals, and the team still is mediocre to boot? Makes no sense.
Guaranteed salary is the big tradeoff for the salary cap, the players will never give it up. I actually like it, it forces teams to choose wisely (with the Blazers being the exception that proves the rule)
Looks like he's been suspended... From the AP: Blazers' Miles suspended for racial epithet 10:50 AM PST on Friday, January 28, 2005 Associated Press The Portland Trail Blazers suspended forward Darius Miles for two games for "conduct detrimental to the team and insubordination," the team announced on Friday morning. The suspension comes after Miles repeatedly called coach Maurice Cheeks a racial epithet during a film session on Thursday, a newspaper reported. "I am disappointed that we've had this distraction to deal with (on Friday)," said Trail Blazers President Steve Patterson. "We expect a certain behavior from everyone in our organization, and what happened (Thursday) is not acceptable behavior. The organization is suspending Darius for two games effective (Friday)." Miles' agent, Jeff Wechsler, would not offer much comment on the incident, saying only, "What happened in practice should stay in practice." As the Blazers enter midseason having lost 13 of their last 16 games, questions have swirled about how much longer Cheeks might keep his job. The Blazers have suspended other players for confrontations with Cheeks. Bonzi Wells was suspended one game in March 2003 for cussing at Cheeks during a practice. Later, in November 2003, Wells was suspended two games for a profanity-laced tirade to Cheeks on the court after he was taken out of a game at Dallas. Two weeks later, Wells was traded to Memphis.
What racial slur could Miles have used? "Uncle Tom?" I'm serious, you hear the N-word in locker rooms and in shootarounds all the time, it couldn't have been that.
Agreed, Miles calling Cheeks a n!@@a is not a racial slur since they're both AA. Must be something else.
Not all African-Americans like being referred to, "affectionately" by the N-word. Many African-Americans find being called that name by other Blacks as inflamatory as much as being called that name by people of other races. Unfortunately, the usage of that term among some African-Americans indicates their ignorance and disrespect for each other. African-Americans referring to other African-Americans by the N-word is quite foolish. People of Chinese descent don't call each other the C-word affectionately and Jews certaintly don't call each other the K-word affectionately.
