Jackson still a no-show He's missed 2 games since N.O. acquired him from Houston Tuesday, January 04, 2005 By Benjamin Hochman Staff writer BOSTON -- It's been one week since Jim Jackson chose unemployment over futility. The 2-27 Hornets acquired Jackson from Houston last Tuesday, and the veteran guard/forward has yet to report. Based on his $2.475 million salary, the suspended Jackson lost $55,000 for missing the past two games, 2/90th of his annual salary. When asked if the Hornets might give in and trade Jackson to another team, General Manager Allan Bristow said, "At this point, no." "I haven't really been worried too much about it," said Hornets coach Byron Scott, who says he is "going to coach the guys I've got here, that want to be here." http://www.nola.com/hornets/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1104821977159160.xml
I agree JJ has made his $$. He wants to enjoy the game now rather than worry about how much he'll get paid.
its funny - not only is NO a bad team, they are so bad, that JJ can't even get traded. They are so aweful that they would rather save the money, then trade JJ for a player they would have to pay and would not factor in to their long term plans. they probably should have taken Gaines instead, only so they can build for the future. Jackson has nothing to offer that team.
Cant be mad at Jim, he has made Millions. Money isnt the issue at this point. A few years ago I took a paycut to get out of a bad situation. To a lesser extent I understand. He probably has enough money, to where he doesnt have to work anymore anyway. We all say it, "If I had x-amount of dollars, I would tell my boss to kiss my @ss and I quit!!!" He is doing the same thing right now.
Well said. I totally agree with JJ's decision, he's paid his dues and got paid while paying them. The only reason he hadn't retired yet is because he wants a ring. Sending him to NO for someone that I don't even think is as good as him and we had to throw in boki, man that’s a slap in the face to JJ. I went to bat for Payton when he was traded to Boston in this same type of situation. Now it seems to be going aight but Payton aint winning a ring there anytime soon. Its really easy for Byron Scott to talk down on JJ sittin' pretty with 5 rings, he more than anyone should have known this was coming, which leads me to believe that he expected this would happen. I guarantee NO is trying to trade him now and it better be to a contender caliber team. I think JJ is making this decision as an experienced professional and no one, other than NO, has any right to question a professional, worth millions, on why he doesn't want to play for a crappy team. He already had to play for Dallas! Put yourself in his shoes and relate it to whatever job you have and you know you would do the same, being financially secure of course. The only right thing for NO to do is trade him now b4 he gets out of shape. Otherwise he's gonna chill in his mansion watching his huge fishtanks, never having to worry about money for the rest of his life. Damn, it must be nice!
this might be the end of jj. he still has a year left on his contract after this one. if he sits out the rest of this year and next year i don't think any team will be willing to sign him. the hornets should trade him back to us for gaines and AB. they get young guys who would LOVE PT. and we get a backup 3 for tmac.
JJ has probably made enough money in his career, and after moving his family 11 times, I don't blame JJ one bit.
