I've been in the process of losing weight to get my BP down. I've lost 56 pounds over the past 3 years...24 pounds of that in the past 6 months. I lift machine weights and play a lot of basketball but, I need to do more. Besides an elipitical machine what's another good way to drop pounds? I've cut out ALL fast food, actually started eating veggies and fruit. I'm starting to stick to 2000 - 2350 cal. per day. Right now I'm 5'10, and 229 pounds (BMI sucks) all labs are perfect (cholesteral, enzimes, etc) I've just got to work on that damn Blood Pressure. I also have pretty bad "white coat syndrome" so when I check it it's always high. My ultimate goal is to 1st get healthy, 2nd lower the BP and get off meds, 3rd run the Houston Marathon, and 4th make it in Men's Health mag "belly off" section. Also if anyone wants to get healthy and help each other out...post it here!
Run or swim if you can. It's alot harder than an elliptical but you'll shed pounds way faster and build up a much longer endurance.
Damn that's pretty good. You need to talk to my gf sometimes.. hahaha I'm so glad she doesn't read this forum much anymore.
Just do some horizontal workouts with her, i'd be glad to show her if thats the type of help you need.
Back in '97, I was about 185 pounds fit and trim and fresh out of the army (19 Delta MOS) I always ate like crap in the army...When i got out and started college I still ate like crap x 2 but, I didn't have someone pushing me to work out. My uncle was diagnosed with Type II diabetes... Well, that was my motivation! Get healthy, get back in shape, live to be 90ish.
Kinda what I'm already doing in here: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=149973 If I keep doing cardio and don't eat like crap, the weight will come off eventually. I just need to start hitting the weights again.
Just wanna say good job staying committed for 3 years! Most people I know do alot of talking but never do what it takes to reach their fitness goals. I've always heard do your lifting before you do your cardio and that will help burn fat(or use up your stored glycogen). I'm sure some of the trainers can expand on that. If you already dropped fast food, i'm sure you've dropped sodas also. Sounds like it's just a matter of time before you get where you wanna be..just keep pushing because in the end it's just you against yourself.
Oh, and congrats. You sound like you are on the right track but just want to do it faster. If continue to do what you are doing it will come off sooner or later. If you want to ramp it up a little, just cut out some more uneccessary calories(do not go below 1600) and/or exercise more. Do that for however long you can tolerate it then go back to normal. Sometimes that kind of change can shock the body into breaking plateaus. I would also reccomend jogging outside over machine stuff, esp if a Marathon is one of your end goals.
I weighed in at 350 lbs, and now I weigh 220. I am 6'2. I have lost 130+ lbs since March 2005......here are some pictures of me, kinda a before and after. Here is a photo before I started my diet....(with my daughter) She is the one who inspired me the most Here is me now (about a month ago) with my daughter! I am very proud of my accomplishment, and anyone who does the same thing should be too!! I did it all naturally, diet and exercise, none of this cheating crap!!
Cwebb evidence suggests that your daughter is about the same age in the first pic as in the second pic, this must be some sort of trick. That doesnt even look like you. Well done!!! It takes a lot of discipline to do something like that, more than the average person has. Its inspiring.
Agreed. Try 1500-1750 calories per day. Eating less refined sugar will help to keep the munchies away.
