realgm is reporting that the nets traded kittles to the clippers for a future second round pick. the trade gives the nets a TE worth $9.2M

any deals we might have thought of to get a big guy with the TE just went out the window because the nets could potentially take other bad contracts from the same team.

im hopeing that the nets will use thier TE to help complete a trade for SAR.

These 2 moves give the Rockets more to worry about next season... This is really frustrating, seeing everyone else in the West making moveS, while the Rockets make the 1st and take a vacation. I'm not the only worried one, am I?

the nets will not take on a bad contract. its a fire sale up there right now. everything to cut costs for the new owners.

as for the TE, its not like the nets are the only other team besides the rockets with a TE. we are one of the only teams with a relatively large TE, and have been exploring options to use it.

Exactly, the whole reason that the Nets did this deal was to reduce payroll. That's the same reason that they let Kenyon Martin walk for nothing but picks. So if you go to those lengths to cut payroll, now you're going to turn around and use the TE and increase your payroll by $9M? That make no sense. If they had intended to do that, then they would have just paid Martin and been done.

Not sure about the TE, but MoT just lost some trade value IMO (not that he had much before).

The good news is that this means the clippers will not match the suns offer to Q. Which means that puts the suns out of the market for Dampier. Maybe the ROX have a chance at signing him.

He would be a good fit.

No way the Nets use that exception this offseason. It's unlikely they use it next offseason.

Man, I don't understand why the Nets are doing this. They had a winner, and with the addition of Kristic could've stayed comfortably up there.

Maybe we should help them get rid of Aaron Williams as well?

BTW, Kidd MUST be up for grabs now. Even if he DID want to stay, why would they want to keep him? I wonder who's going to get him.

I wonder if we will see SAR go to the Nets for Kidd.

To join a backcourt which already includes Van Exel and Stoudamire? I don't think Portland will tie almost 40M in PG's this coming season.

Kidd to Chicago, Crawford and JYD to New York, Mutombo/Othella/Trybanski/Kurt Thomas/Chicago protected first rounder to New Jersey.

But this is a Rockets board, so nevermind.

Did Dawson get ripped off last year? How come we had to pay a 1st and take on Amechi for a lesser salary in Rice? I know Kittles is better than Rice, but the Clippers are better off playing their younger players than him. Besides, a 2nd rd pick is nothing.

Obviously, you haven't heard. Elgin Baylor is the savviest GM in the league right now.

I think Les only planned to spend it on someone to put them over the top. The problem is, no one wants to trade a player like that for a TE unless your NJ, but I think the fire sale is over. While I think Kidd will be moved to Dallas, I don't like his contract vs age vs health and the TE won't work for him. Also, I don't see NJ spending their TE either so our TE value remains the same - IMO.

I've resigned to the fact that we traded a #1 and 1 year with Glenn Rice and cash for 2 years of John Amaechi to save Les some money. I hope I'm wrong here but time is running out to surprise me.

Well, that's the objective. Les does not want to pay luxury tax and Rox is not a contender yet. so no need to use the TE.

The Rockets would be a contender if they split the entire TE between a C and a PG.
