You may or may not agree with the results of the Presidential election. You may or may not be happy with the results of the Presidential election. But you must admit one thing. Our system of government works. And our founding fathers had some incredible foresight, did they not? As I write this at 2:45AM, there is no rioting in the streets. Supporters of the Democrats and Republicans aren't shooting themselves in the streets. The only things I can hear on the street here in the Medical Center area are the occasional street-sweeper and far-away train. If the US were a third world country, tonight's Presidential election would have sparked a revolution. Instead, we will have a peaceful transition of power on January 20th. Just like always. We the people once again become we the watchdogs. If Dubya does something good as President, we praise him. If Dubya does something bad as President, we call him to the carpet on it. And, in four years, we'll do this thing all over again. Congrats to Dubya for winning the Presidential election. Good luck to him. I hope he achieves great things and keeps his promises. We the people will be watching. ------------------ I am the b*stard son of LHutz. Huh? Right!

I just turned on the television. FLA is too close to call again??? Amazing might be an understatement! Well, REGARDLESS OF WHO WINS, our system works!!! ------------------ I am the b*stard son of LHutz. Huh? Right!
Not so Fast Tex. Gore looks to win the Popular vote, what happens if dubya wins electoral ? The system may not work after all. ------------------ "I know how hard it is to put food on your family." George W. Bush
You know cheating is a very strong possibility. I would say that most of us have been tempted at some point, and most of us have have probably given in, so I wouldn't be surprised if somebody did cheat if Florida or elsewhere. There is so much at stake the odds are in favor of somebody, somewhere, having done something. We will likely never find out about it. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
If Gore wins the popular vote, and Bush wins the electoral vote then I`m not sure the system worked. ------------------
The system worked -- but it may be time to change the system to do away with the electoral college. I'd also add that states should have their deadlines for absentee and mail in votes early enough to have all votes counted on election day. ------------------ Stay Cool...
hmm..maybe we should check if dead people and dead pets requested those absentee ballots. snowball I humphrey boa-gart mr & mrs. bananas buddy holly, richie valens, and the big bopper
Two things keep popping up in my mind: 1. Will the new President (no matter if it is Gore or Bush) try to repeal the 12th amendment? This is the amendment that sets up the Electoral College system. 2. I still feel that whoever wins is an instant lame-duck one-termer. The party that loses the presidency this year, no matter if it is the Repubs or the Dems that lose, will feel like they got totally screwed. That party will then spend the next 4 years reconnecting with and re-energizing it's base, will concentrate on bringing out the vote, and will win in a landslide four years from now. ------------------ I am the b*stard son of LHutz.
