Personally, I was planning to go to Austin to attend the tea party there, but now I am compelled to attend the Alamo tea party in San Antonio. Why compelled? I never would have believed it, but the organizers for this on my block is a group comprised of four widowed octogenarians -- and I got scolded for not being in the forefront of this. :D

So perhaps Glenn Beck is having a greater impact than I ever would have believed. These tea parties may be a growing backlash by people who are now feeling empowered -- a dangerous movement in the eyes of most professional pols but a wondrous spark of the American spirit.

Umm, I think this whole idea was thought up by professional pols so they could exploit the little old ladies. This is not Solidarity in the 1980's, it's manufactured outrage by a few.

The origins I won't debate -- because I don't know. Regardless of who started it and why, the tea parties have begun to take on a life of their own. They are not Democratic or Republican or Libertarian. The tea parties are being embraced by people who are tired of the greed and arrogance at the top of our political and economic food chains.

Four widowed southern octogenarians is very symbolic of the GOP's present and future - thank you for sharing!

Symbolism may be a very apt word choice. The widows date back to an America that believed in ethical behavior, hard work and sheer patriotism untarnished by cynicism.

Like Stephen King's Mother Abigail in "The Stand," they can still hold up a torch to light the face of the devil. Before they pass on, these feisty little old ladies may accomplish one final act of heroism for their country -- passing the torch of freedom.

I will if someone will help upload them to CF. I've never been able to do that. Otherwise, I'll have to send them to you and you can do it.

When these lazy retirees, who suckle from the teat of my FICA taxes, go to the great tea party in the sky, they will be rewarded for their self-righteousness with brimstone and damnation.

Every now and then you become my favorite poster...just for a brief moment, you are like a meteor ...burn hot then fade away.

I will let the rest of the board judge you for your own statements, my little administrative clerk. Your 56 weekly FICA dollars are so needed to feed U.S. citizenry.

Those octogenerians date back to a time when Mother Abigail would have been sitting at the back of the bus and getting attacked with fire hoses and police dogs if she tried to assert her equal rights. Please spare us the gauzy, idealized version of an America that never existed.

Gasbags like Sam always burn hot, smell putrid as they do, and fade into oblivion.

I for one am hopping mad about my tax cut. Where can I pollute a local waterway?

My 56 fica dollars = 56 more than the your tea-partying teat-suckling neighbors contribute. For shame. If I weren't a gentleman, I would administer a sound bopping to these screeching old harpies, smack in their blue-haired domes.

A tea party? At the Alamo? Sounds like fun.

You may have had very different childhood experiences. Fortunately, I did not even though I grew up in the same time frame and world. In that world my very Hispanic, fifth-grade educated father and my Southern mother married and raised their children to think the best of people.
