To say this has been one of the biggest summers for me is an understatement. I didn't go on any exotic trips or anything like that, just 5 major life-changing experiences that have been emotionally challenging, but at the same time a blessing and a step in the right direction.

    1. I started a new job in May.

After 4 months of depressing unemployment, I finally landed my DREAM job. I am doing Internet Marketing - something that I've been wanting to do since the early 00's. Im working for a strong .com company working in Greenway Plaza with a great office view of Williams Tower. I don't dread coming to work anymore, and my boss is very cool. It has been a wonderful experience so far.

    2. I'm engaged.

I've been with Alicia for 3 years and its been a wild journey - but fun. She has 2 awesome kids (ages 8 and 12) and I never thought that I would be able to date someone with kids, but they truly enhance my life for the better.

    3. My fiancee won her custody battle.

.... from her idiotic ex-husband who's selfish reasons (money, driving distance, spite) led her to settle on an area of town that is close to him - driving distance wise. The idiot wanted to pay less in child support and not have to drive from 43rd/290 (where he lives) area to Memorial (where we lived) because it took him supposedly an hour.... Whatever - she spent $20,000 defending herself from this ass clown, who despite her best wishes, drug the kids into the battle which has created a ton of emotional and I'm sure psychological strain on her kids.

    4. I'm moving.

No, not back to Austin again :D, I'm moving up to the Jersey Village area off of West Rd. and the Beltway. This is part of the settlement Alicia agreed to, and it means we have to basically live in this area for the next 10 years minimum (when her youngest graduates from HS). This means that I get to slay the 290 beast every AM and PM Monday - Friday - yay!! We actually found a nice 4/2.5 in Winchester that has the space we need for a growing family which leads me to my last.......

    5. Im having a kid.

We found out a few months back and it was a very big surprise to the both of us. I was angry, confused, scared - everything a selfish person thinks at that time I guess. Alicia was going through so much with her case, and we discussed our options thoroughly, but when it came down to it - I think we made the right decision. I mean hell I'm 31 years old, and have been in love with this girl for 3 years - so why not right? I can be a father..... :( Im extremely happy - but also extremely scared.

Its been crazy. Absolutely crazy. Between selling our respective condos, moving, storage, jumping from place to place, battling this, buying that (Honda SUV) - I seriously don't know how we haven't gone completely nuts.

Anyway..... life is going well. :)

Any openings at your dot.com? I've been looking like crazy for a while, but nothing ever seems to come up. Where did you find your new gig...online or word-of-mouth?

in the in the last 7 years i've mourned the passing of my mother, got married, bought my first house, and had three children. sometimes life just sweeps you along on it's own momentum. try to remember to take a deep breath every now and then. life won't always move so fast. i least i hope not ;) . anyways, good luck with everything, sounds like your head is in the right place.

This summer the pos company I work went under so I am unemployed and they of course owe me money etc. Our rabbit that we adopted died a painful death. We feel pretty guilty about and it, even though we tried to take care of her and it cost a good amount of money to try and save her. There were just some things we didn't know enough about taking care of a rabbit. Two days later I find out that my dad has lung cancer even though he never smoked. It's been kind of crazy. Wine and Xanax has been flowing quite freely around here. And the weather is just strange. It's kind of surreal.

    Drew,

Congrats on the new job, the engagement, and the impending fatherhood. Your summer sounds a lot like the summer I had last year as I moved and got married plus became an instant dad. However, one of the first things I did after I got married was get a vasectomy. I don't regret that at all but boy my wife has had a hard time with that, but she is better about it now (or at least she seems like it).

Moving is stressful enough but getting married as well makes it even tougher. Couldn't imagine what it is like to be expecting a baby on top of that - that is like the trifecta of stress right there, lol! I'm glad you seem to be able to handle it well. Best of luck to you and your fiance for the future.

Congrats on everything, Drewdog. I remember you having something about collecting unemployment in your sig and I was about to email you to ask you how to get it, since I'm being laid off in October.

This is shaping up to be an interesting year for me too, actually. At this time next year, I will most likely:

    -be married
    -be an expectant father
-have sold my house (and my future wifes house) and moved into a new house
-be in the midst of a MAJOR career change

    Change is good, right? Right??

Congrats on everything, Drew...except that driving on 290 thing. I feel for you there. My brother just moved back inside the loop after 2 years in his house off of Barker Cypress. The 2 hour drive home at night was driving them crazy.

Fatherhood is an amazing thing. No one is ever truly ready for it. Just enjoy it. I've never laughed more than in the last 2 years...which also included losing my job of 7 years a few months back (start a new one on Monday).
