Any fans of The Strokes here? I've been a big fan since there first album. I thought the second album was good, but not as great as the first one. The first one was definitely a classic.

I'm also excited about the concert on Sunday. Anyone going?

I wouldn't call either one of their albums "a classic" but the strokes are one of my favorite bands.

I feel the same way. I have both of their albums and I thought their first one was better. Even though a lot of people like to trash them because they sound like old groups/artists like Velvet Underground, Iggy & the Stooges, the Cars, etc, I like their sound and how it is a mixture of other artists.

I'll tell you a band that is great that is similar to the Strokes or does similar music and that is Interpol. Their CD "Turn on the Bright Lights" is one of the best new CDs I have bought this year. They sound like Talking Heads, Joy Division, and the Smiths all rolled into one.

Interpol is a great band, with a definite old school, post punk/factory music sound.

A friend of mine who likes Interpol went to see them in concert, and thought of them as being so similar to Joy Division that he was kind of disappointed watching them live, and seeing the bass player kind of do a poppy dance during some songs.

They're a good band, but i think they're too cool for me to listen to, so i stick with Jimmy eat world and the Transplants.

one of my good friends best friend from when he was younger kicked jimmy eat world's singers ass at some after party once. supposedly the singer guy is the one that started the fight but the other guy is the one that finished it.

Aren't The Strokes and Jet pretty much the same band? Along with all the other bands that start with "the".

There was a band called the Von Bondies at Rudyards last night, and they had kind of the same schtick going.

I think - but I'm not positive because I was fully engrossed in the process of getting pissy drunk and, from there, proceeding to make an embarrassment of my pitiful self.

There was another band too who played their whole set in leather underpants. I believe they also had a the.

Pretty soon the the thing will probably join the umlaut in the Rock Name Cliche Hall of Fame.

Well, I was actually referring to bands that have come around in the last few years, not the last few decades...

yeah if i had a band there would be no way in hell i would put "the" in front. although it obviously doesnt hurt your popularity though.

Appreciate the effort and the attitude, but they have to learn how to write a friggin' bridge before I'll give it a third listen.

Not to slam the Strokes, that goes for just about any current band I can think of.

I do wish they'd have consulted me before stealing my wardrobe, as well.

    Like The Strokes but ...

Turbonegro would chew them up and spit them out ... then butt-slam them for good measure ...

The Decemberists, the Books, the Notwist, the Shins, the Unicorns, and the Walkmen (they suck, but most seem to like them).

I'm being a jerk. Point is, band names mean nothing about the music quality. I mean, 'the Beatles' is a pretty lame one.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead is one of the few bands whose name gives you a good idea of the theme of their music.

rudager: You mean that "the walkmen" suck or all the bands mention in your first line?

The Walkmen. The others are unbelievably good.
