someone tell me, what was the ending all about? i didn't get it. he's in a restaurant with wife and son, his daughter is entering the door and that's it. how am i supposed to interpret that?
The writers got lazy. They made enough money, and left the audience off with an ambiguous ending to leave room open for another season/movie. At the same time they knew it was over. I have never watched an episode of the Sopranos.
It's makes much more sense if you're not sober. Yeah, I never got it either. It's whatever you want it to be.
It meant that Vince Young was about to walk into the restaurant with a crazed fan named DaDakota reaching for his nutsack. That's how I interpreted it.
It kind of leaves the audience making their own judgment on what happened. The three endings that come up the most are- -Tony was killed the moment he looks up by the man that went to the bathroom moments before, which explains it just cutting to black since in the episode before he has a conversation with his brother-in-law Bobby about you never hear death. The only problem with that scenario is that with the death of Phil it doesn't make sense that Tony would be killed. -Tony gets arrested due to Carlo flipping on them. The more plausible ending. -Nothing. It ends the show but life goes on. Kind of like the ending of Goodfellas where at the end see Henry continuing on with his life. In retrospect it was the perfect way to end the show.
Funny story. I Tivo'd the last episode of the The Sopranos and it stopped recording right before Meadow walked into the diner. I was so pissed off until I saw the replay the next day and realized I didn't miss anything! BTW I think the "you never see it coming" explanation is the most valid one. Also Brett Farve just signed with the Vikings.
If you have some free time read this explanation: http://masterofsopranos.wordpress.com/the-sopranos-definitive-explanation-of-the-end/ It's pretty thorough. The conclusion: Tony's dead.
Awesome link man, thanks. The Sopranos is my favorite show ever. Its a show that I can watch even if I've seen the episode a hundred times. I even went and bought the complete series box-set and dropped over 300.00 on it. Yeah, I love the show...... and Tony is dead.
Who killed tony, was it the black guys of the members only jacket guy? Are the black guys the ones that tried to kill tony earlier?
^It was actually a black guy IN a members only jacket. Tony was so shocked to see a black guy in a members only jacket that he didn't even notice the gun. BANG BANG, turn out the lights.
I think the most probable explanation is that Tony is dead. I prefer the idea that he did not die -- all of his friends are dead, he's in a mess of legal trouble, but he still has to wake up the next day and figure out what to do. I think one of the more interesting points about the show is that the fans do not want Tony to be dead, even though he deserves anything that comes to him.
i knew there had to be a sarcastic comment, but that's fine. some people do have jobs, and are busy making money therefore can't watch tv whenever they want, only when they have time. yes, i know FAVRE signed with the vikings.
thanks, that was exactly what i was looking for. damn, tony's dead. i guess there's no sequel nor a movie
Who would kill him and why? New York could have gotten him at the sit down when told Tony they didn't care if Jersey killed Phil Leotardo.
good point, but the beef with new york probably carried over, you killed my boss i'll kill you type of deal.
me too man i love the show! i just started the series over (i own the box set too) and i am loving it! paulie walnuts is my favorite - i laugh at almost all of his lines.
In the time he was alive i'm sure Tony amassed plenty of enemies who would all have a reason to want him dead.
