According to the Indianapolis Star News, Davis will opt out of his contract and become a free agent. Since we really need a center next year, I think it would be smart to sign him. Imagine a front court with Taylor and Thomas at the PFs, with Cato and Davis at the center spot.True, he may be older, but he is only 32 and will bring plenty of veteran leadership to this team. He would be the only free agent we would have enough cap space to lure into Houston, considering that Shandon and Taylor will be resigned, we dont need another power forward in Webber and Finley wont want to leave Dallas. ------------------ http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/houstonrockets2000
I think we could very possibly see the Rockets make a play for Antonio Davis on the free agent market or pursue Austin Croshere in a trade scenario if it comes up. Both names make very good sense to add a rough and rugged player to the frontline. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Here's the answer to our center of the future question: Kelvin Cato and Jason Collier Make a run at Webber, Mo Taylor will find someone else with caproom that will take him. Like Sacramento. ------------------
Croshere obviously doesn't fit into Isaih Thomas's plans. They sign him to a huge contract, and he sits on the bench. Harrington is now starting for the Pacers. There is a real chance of us getting him. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. "At what position? It's already logjammed as it is with KT and Mo" Croshere would take the place of KT imho as he is not really a long term solution. As I have stated before, KT and Mo dont really work well together as the PFs b/c neither makes up for the other's deficiencies. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
He can also play the 3. He would be a nice fit on this team. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view. -- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
NewGuy: The odds are *stacked* against us getting Webber. He's never even mentioned us as a possibility, and we really don't even have the type of cap room to accomodate him, from what I understand of the situation. Antonio Davis is a far more likely candidate. If the Rockets decide that Cato IS our C for the future, David is still a good acquisition. He can do all the things Mo can't... like rebound and play D... and he is good for the 4 spot. So with Davis, we'd be adding versatility as well as talent. (BTW, we have *NO WAY* of knowing yet if Collier will work out AT ALL) ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
If we come up empty for Webber, just keep Mo. But at least go for it. And whoever told you we didn't have enough caproom for Webber is way off. They probably don't know that the cap is supposed to go up substantially this offseason. And he has mentioned Houston as a possibility. When Sacto came to town he talked about how his cousin who lives here keeps trying to convince him to sign with us, and I think I remember him saying he likes Rudy and things we have a good young nuclues, and that he is friends with Stevie from their days in DC ------------------
Webber's cousin is our "in." Not that C-Webb will want to move here because of family; that's Detroit. But the cousin can sell him on Houston the city (hey, don't mention "smog" or "traffic"). And C-Webb did say some positive things about Cat and Steve. So, while we can only hope on that outside chance, it's better than nothing. Lil Francis, where are you to chime in on this? ------------------
Is that $4 million for Bullard a team option? What does the blue writing mean? And check out the realgm Rockets salary page. That lists our salaries at $28 for next season, which would give us $15-16 in capspace. ------------------
6. Blue Numbers indicate salary cap amount for un-renounced free agents, green indicates team option. Its in the notes section underneath the chart. ************************************** Unless they renounce Bullard, that is how much he will count against the cap. ------------------ Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by rocketsfan34 (edited December 18, 2000).]
MManual I know you hate KT but ,...Coshere? Is he like a MAJOR upgrade over KT? He has only had one nice run in the playoffs in ...4 years now he is back on the bench I think i hear the dreaded P word again [potential] I think KT has more P than Croshere. I like Croshere but . .I prefer KT [Esp for the price ...mainly for the price] [other wise i see them as equal] Rocket River ------------------
River, yes Croshere is that much better than KT. Croshere's first two yrs, he was buried behind on the bench behind a ton of veteran talent. Remember, their frontcourt featured Antonio Davis, Dale Davis, Rik Smits, Chris Mullin, Derrick McKey, etc. Croshere got time during his third season and really blossomed in the playoffs. I feel he would be a lot more productive this season if in the right system. Right now, Indiana is looking to establish Jalen Rose and Jermaine O'Neal as the next generation and are trying to bring Al Harrington and eventually Jonathan Bender into the mix. Croshere is not fitting this real well. Based on the type of sets Ive seen Rudy run this season, I feel Croshere would fit them extremely well. Setting the screen, rolling to the left wing to open the floor for the guards, the ability to shoot the long range shot after receiving from a penetrating guard, all these are strengths in Croshere's game. In addition to that, he'd add a lot of intangible hustle and determination that this frontcourt is lacking. Fans keep saying the frontcourt is not gritty enough, well Croshere would bring that. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
This season, the cap is at $35,500,000. Some say it will go up next year, some say it won't, but we don't know those numbers, as far as I know. If the Rockets are at $28,163,387 next year, and that doesn't include Dream, Taylor, Norris, Bullard, Langhi, and Miller, that'll only be around 7 mil to split between those players. <ol> How does that give us money to go after other guys?[/list=a] Now in one article, Real GM projects next years cap at 42.7 mil, and Houston to have a 5 mil exception, which would give us that 12 mil, but in another article, they specifically say Houston will have only 4.1 mil in cap space, which they expect to be used for Taylor. Does anyone know anything definitive on this? ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
100% correct MManal. Great post. Croshere would be a perfect fit. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view. -- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Hypothetically, with Croshere, would you be ok with your PF (Mo) getting only 5-6 boards with 16 or so points, if your SF (Croshere?) was providing 7-8 boards? I would be. The numbers don't work. Webber is a serious pipe dream. We'd have to renounce Mo immediately, trade away any picks we have (they take up salary slots), renounce Hakeem if he wants to come back (by renouncing him, we then couldn't sign him till about a month before the season, and basically giving him a ticket goodbye), trade Walt for a 2001 free agent (being a player who makes 5 mill, and probably would not help the team at all) as well as hoping Rogers opts out, which I doubt he'd do, considering the odds of him getting a 3 million dollar contract are slim, and renouncing Bullard. Not to mention saying adios to Shandon. On the Croshere side, it could only help with Shandon. His agent wouldn't feel slighted (Croshere is a Fegan client), and Croshere would have no impact on Shandon's PT. Croshere vs. KT? Not even close. I'll take Croshere all the way. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I'd take Croshere, absolutely. Hopefully he can play the 3. So far he was better at the 4. I know the numbers are practically impossible, but I figure Indiana really wants Dream. Today's Chicago Tribune sports section detailed Isiah Thomas' rough first season as head coach and how management is considering trading some of their "young talent" for Mutombo. I think they want to get a veteran center who can finish out with Reggie Miller and get this team to "the finals" (Isiah's current pipe dream). I've tried RealGM and really, the only way to get Croshere and trade Hakeem (before the offseason) is to involve Chicago. We would have to send Mo in the deal. And a lot of other big "ifs." Of course, Cato and Croshere are both full BYC. Straight up trade. But then we lose our "center of the future." ------------------
