Have you all heard this? Supposedly from a Houston radio station, KSBJ FM 89.3. Fact or fiction, it is moving.... so I guess I gotta put it in the D&D!

I think it is kind of sad when you can't be moved and astounded by the earnestness of a 13 YO boy-- even if you don't subscribe to his beliefs.

At the end of the day you're making fun of a 13 YO boy who has had to make a heartfelt sacrifice.

I think it is even sadder that he is led to believe such things.

It's a shame that this kid has been duped into believing something so strongly that is so wrong. I think that's what MEOWGI is pointing out.

The Christ myth is a powerful lesson about the virtue of sacrifice. It's not sad at all that a child learns to understand difficult concepts like death through such stories. Unfortunately, in their pursuit of truth many adults continue to focus on the myth instead of the lessons behind it.

One man's truth is another man's myth-- make that boy's.

The thing most of the critics are overlooking is what the boy says happened: God spoke to him-- not his parents, not his pastor, not his teacher.

This is the problem--when adults encourage and even themselves beleive this child's delusion. Children have very active imaginations. That's great, until the time comes where they need to distinguish between what is imagined and what is real. Do you actually beleive this kid spoke to God? If your son told you that he regularly conversed with voices in his head would you simply take his word for it, or would you be concerned?

The stories of the gospels are myths. There is no valid evidence that they are true (at least the supernatural elements).

Where do you get off diagnosing a delusion?

As far as I can discern, this is the first time that Justin claims that God has spoken to him. I've met other folks who claim likewise; it is usually a rare and one-way conversation.

I believe the kid spoke to God; it's called prayer. More importantly I believe that God spoke to the kid.

Please don't try to sensationalize (i.e. "regularly conversed") something that is simply sensational on its own merit.

Yes, I would be wary of lunatic ranting of any sort... but I don't see that here.

There is a lack of evidence of plenty of things that have happened in my life and yours. That doesn't mean that those things didn't happen. We are not after scientific proof...

Kid claims he hears voices... pretty much a textbook delusion.

I agree that this falls short of "lunatic ranting" as it is simply a case of a kid with an active imagination. The problem I have, as I stated before, is that adults like yourself are encouraging the beleif that what he imagined was actually real.

Do you have any evidence that God actually spoke to this child? If not, why should this be treated any differently than a case in which a child claims to hear voices in his head?

There's plenty of evidence that children communicate with imagined entities. There is no evidence that this case is any different. Of course, it's possible, though highly unlikely, that he actually did speak with God. It's also possible, and equally likely, that he spoke with Satan pretending to be God. The story isn't as inspirational in that light, is it?

Okay, be cynical if it makes you feel better... :D

He heard a voice. One time I gather.

    This is a 13YO young man not a 4YO nose-picker!

I don't require evidence. I've listened to a story and judged it on it's merits.

Replies like this are tantamount to having some overly Christian group yell at you that you're going to Hell.

The simple fact is no one knows anything for a fact. It is up to what YOU, or anyone believes. You choose not to Believe in God. Good for you.

Now quit posting crap on this board about how you KNOW it is a bunch of myths. It is pretty offensive.
