Some say the remaining season is about getting the highest lotto pick possible. They are all wrong. It doesn't matter that much if they make the playoffs-- though that will be nice. There's no sense watching SA or Portland and hoping they lose. The we need to pay attention to are not the Spurs or the Blazers. We need to pay attention to the Rockets. 15 games worth of extra minutes won't make or break Budinger or Hill's career. With 35 wins under belt, the team ain't gonnt out-tank enough teams to get anything other than a teen-ish pick (and a marginal increase in the probablity for a top 3 pick). What's the remaining season about? Good vibes. The best thing this team can do for its future is to just play good basketball and feel good about themselves. For the sake of attracting a premium FA, the team needs to look one guy away from a championship run, Daryl Morey needs to look like a genius who gets all the right pieces, and Adelman needs to look like he wears monocles. You do that by winning and looking like winners. For the sake of increasing the value of our "assets," the team needs to win games. Even if they miss the playoffs. Losing might marginally increase the value of the 1st round pick, but it will decrease the value of all the other guys under contract. To protect the value of the Knicks picks, this team needs to make Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni look stupid. Yes, it helps to "showcase" Jordan Hill, but that only works when the team plays good basketball. And win games. The guys we need to develop and showcase the most are Daryl Morey and Rick Adelman. Les Alexander, too. We need to develop him. These guys are the future of the franchise.
Come on man. Pinky and the Brain. I thought everybody would think of that when they saw the title. You must either be very old or very young.
Morey gets that title if he follows up with another successful off season. Either a successful draft, or a key signing/good trade will suffice.
"Narf!" "Are you thinking what I'm thinking Pinky?" "I think so Brain, but what good is giving minutes to Andersen or Battier going to do if they won't be playing here next year?" "Zort!"
bwahaha! i didn't read the whole thing, but any thread that includes a pinky and the brain video deserves 5 stars!
I skimmed over the first post because it had to many words, but from what I can gather, Les or Rick (Pinky) and Morey (Brain) are actually plotting to take over the world. Ok, I can dig that, but does that make Mark Cuban, Snowball?
Best way to get good vibes, best way to look one piece away from being a contender, best way to look like winners to potential trade partners and to feel good about themselves is to make the playoffs. That's one thing the people who have been pushing for the team to tank all season just don't get. I don't expect the team to make the playoffs -- I doubt there are enough games left -- but it would make for a better team next year if they did.
There are three things that struck me about this thread. 1.) Playing poorly creates bad habits that you might not even notice. (Your knees aren't quite bent, you do not go all out after that rebound, you look at who you are going to pass to for just a bit too long.) One of the guys on NBA TV was talking about this with Antwan Jamison after the trade. So winning is good for keeping that at away. 2.) I want to go to the Playoffs. I know in the long run it might be better for us to get a Greg Monroe, James Anderson, Cole Aldritch type. But I want to yell at my TV at the top of my lungs when AB's Three goes in or Kevin Martin goes right by someone.... I want more Rockets Basketball. 3.) Chris Bosh does not care if Morey can be a great GM as much as the size of his check that he cashes. In the end I am a fan and win or lose I will cheer for my team... In the playoffs or in the lottery.... In preseason and in post game... At the tip or at the buzzer... Bleed Red Rockets Red.
Too many words?? What do you do when you have to read for school? Or work? Or if you have to read the menu at Taco Bell?? Your assumptions aren't even close to what the thread was about, fyi. Lol.
